For those who might wonder if KZfaq is BROKEN I had to re-upload this video as one of the songs got a copyright claim, even though both songs are from the KZfaq AUDIO LIBRARY.. They are supposed to be copyright free. Instead of fighting to keep the songs, and enriching some hack while the dispute goes though, I decided to just delete it and re-upload the video without the music. Sorry for the inconvenience.

This is like a trip back in time. I had so many of these cars when I was a kid, some I completely forgot about. On every page, I was like, oh! I had that one and that one. It's funny how a child's memory never forgets good times.

My Grandmother worked at a department store back in the late 60’s-early 70’s. I always received Matchbox cars for Christmas and birthdays. As an adult, maybe 20 years ago, she gave me a small stack of these. I have them put away somewhere, but I seem to recall they span from 68 or 69 up to 76 or so. It’s been a while, so I may be wrong... But thanks for sharing yours, and inspiring me to go find mine!

I would certainly enjoy seeing videos of the Matchbox catalogs over the years. I had the 1979-80 and the 1980-81 catalogs when I was a kid. They were well worn by the time I was through with them, that's for sure!

Wow, that 1967 catalog at the beginning there sure took me way back. My dad had that exact catalog along with some of the cars featured it in as well as the one you showed and I have very fond memories of him showing them to me as a kid. I was impressed with how high quality the models were despite being older compared to the newer hotwheels I had at the time which seemed much more cheaper in quality and mass produced. Unfortunately, my dad passed several years ago but this brought back happy memories of him showing me his childhood. Also reminds me that he kept all of it in this wooden box in our garage which should still be there as we've been completely cleaning out the place so I'll be sure to save it ASAP.

8:38 WoW!.. I have the 1911 Maxwell Roadster (Y14) but without the radiator, among another 10 models in sad conditions but without losing that charm & quality. T H A N K S ! ! a lot for sharing this catalog with which you gave me historical reference of my Grandfather's Matchbox cars. I am 43 years old & I must say that it´s great to see these cars with their use scars. When I saw your video "Matchbox Restoration: No16 Scammell "Mountaineer" Dump Truck with Snowplough", I recognized him immediately as one of the ones I keep. I’d love to see a series on these! I just recently took a trip home for my high school reunion and while there I collected some of my old Matchbox cars (several from these catalogs!) from my sister, no idea how she ended up with them after I left for the military. Guess I wasn’t around to tell her stay outta my room! If I could ask one thing, bring back that music you added for the first catalog flip through, or something similar. It really added to the feeling of nostalgia, and the silence in this video was deafening! 🤣

Wow! you really have a lot of catalogs! The artist continues to like kids who wear ties - he had one toting the match box carrying case. The end section that discusses zinc mining and processing and paint production suggests that the makers of Matchbox knew then that they actually had two markets. There were actual kids who played with the toys, but there was also an adult market that appreciated them as models and miniatures. Great video!

I'm not old enough to have a nostalgia trip on this, but I do enjoy seeing all the old artwork for the cars. There's just something about that style that's very appealing to me.
@DrWhom
@DrWhom 4 жыл бұрын
The medium is gouache and this style of illustration (artistic but precise & unassuming) used to be nigh-on ubiquitous before CGI and digital retouching/colour correction of photography became commonplace. It is sometimes referred to as "movie-poster" style (accordingly, gouache is also known as "poster paint"). British comics of the day were done in this style (e.g. Roy of the Rovers, Dan Dare, Trigan Empire) as well as book covers, which are just small movie posters.

Once had the Build a Road set too.Thanks for sharing the memories of 1968,when I was a wee lad.

Wow $3 new and now $400. The Superkings K20 Ford D series winch semi trailer with the 3 orange #39 tractors, factory, hard hat and battery powered driver tool to operate the trailer winch. A rare Superfast which also goes for big money, if complete. Bit of a shame that the trailer was no longer detachable from the tractor.

Wow, fantastic! How is it I'm getting nostalgia looking at a book that came out 8 yrs before I was even born? Oh well, at any rate, I do believe I received (as a Christmas gift) a stake truck very similar to the one seen at 1:29 when I was about 4 years old. If I had to critique this video, the only thing I can come up with is: 4:02 + ... You zoomed over to the checklist so quickly that the 3 cars on the left side of page 13 were just a blur to my aging eyes 🙁 Everything else was amazing. Loved the Greyhound Bus picture!

Thought I'd better comment on thr re-upload too.👍 It's almost as good as the original. Seriously though, a whole series of these would be great. I would keep it simple, just like this. One possible idea would be to show a few vehicles from each catalogue, maybe the newest additions to the range; depends just how many of them you actually have. Cheers for now, Dougie.

Yup, some things were much better in the past. Us children in the 1960's weren't treated like morons. I was five in 1968, and, like most children of my age, (although I could read and write at three and a half) had no problem reading the catalogue. A lot of things were like this. Dinky, Corgi, Britains, and Airfix all produced beautiful catalogues. They were something you looked forward to each year.

Oh if only I had all my old Matchbox, Dinky, and Corgi toys that I had as a child they would be worth a fortune. I kept them in pristine condition and always put the back in their boxes, but alas my wretched stepmother burned all of them. She thought they were distracting me from my schoolwork.

A Google search for "Matchbox Spare Parts" will find many sellers of parts for Matchbox. It's quite the thriving Cottage Industry. There are sellers in: Australia, UK, USA, Canada and Holland that I have purchased from. Most parts available are for the earlier Regular Wheels type Matchbox, up to 1969 production. The Lion for the Wildlife Truck is not available, as far as I know. You can get the window unit, and the clear plastic dome for the load bed, as these were used on earlier Regular Wheels Ford F100's.
