This is a very convenient and incredibly Beautiful Adventure to the 13,661 summit of Lookout Peak! Departing Ophir Pass and Ascending Colorful Wildflower Laiden Basins, amazing views of Columbine Lake, the surrounding San Juan Mountains, Steep Talus Slopes and a Spectacular Summit Ridge. This Excursion, while convenient to the popular Ophir pass, is still packed full of thrills! I climbed a stout Class 4 headwall just below the summit though I found it to be avoidable on my descent. Be prepared for loose San Juan rock and Breath Taking Beauty. . .

This was one of my all time Favorite 13er Climbs in Colorado. A classic route! I didnt summit until my 5th attempt due to poor weather and once a hangover got in the way ... See you at 2:30pm for the Premier (On Belay 🤟😝)

I 've been watching a few videos of Ophir Pass to bring the Jeep up there, I was also looking at South Lookout so it was cool to find you up on the north side. Views are pretty awsome for the short hike and scramble commitment. And the motorbike was fitting so thanks for ditching the mountain bike on this one! It never looks remotely fun when you're biking up those roads. For anyone who wants to climb class 4 like this for love of God spend time in a climbing gym. The ridge or couloir are not the place to work on body placement or efficiency right.

I ride all bikes but definitely the Moto is my favorite for approaches! The E-Bike is cool but yea, mountain bikes on jeep roads is utility only, if that, LOL! I totally agree with some gym training but, even then, the gym can give you a real false sense of safety when it comes to loose alpine rock. I can literally fly up an easy gym route but would never do so in an alpine setting and the San Juans have to be the most loose of all, OMG. Had a bloody noodle knocker recently just from looking at a loose rock. Cool you mentioned body placement and efficiency, I live by that, easily finding rest positions, never coming close to stressing myself while soloing. After years of climbing 11's and 12's I found if I can be good enough to find a rest position mid way, my chances of an on-sight triple, so easy to pound out a tough finish if you have a full tank!. Cheers Tony PS I got stuffed on S Lookout this spring, too much wet snow on the finish, I'll make that video this winter, it was an AWESOME place above Clear lake, easy 4x4 but the road was blocked by snow 2/3's of the way up at the time. Made it even better, had it all to myself!

Absolutely. Getting up on actual rock with real exposure are an aspect of scrambling that you can only get by doing it. If you look down and freak out then you are probably in serious trouble so maybe roped routes are a better choice. I say get some skills indoors at the VERY MINIMUM because there are too many weekend warriors out there wearing high ankle hiking boots or tennis, or even TX Guides, who are clearly fumbling on exposed rock and getting lucky, or not. This is why so many people fall on Capitol. Not just the knife edge portion but also climbing with extreme care not to knock off a rock and start a small avalanche of rockfall onto those who are below.

A loose rock dislodged under my feet 100 yards from the summit of Capitol while I was resting, extremely unlucky. . . it was a very close call. . . I was dangling. . That's a great video if you're interested. . .Cheers!@@detroitologist

I had a lot of problems on Lookout. The best guide was my golden retriever who kept looking down at me wondering why I wasn't up there. Got back...looked at the guide book...I was using the route for South Lookout (right across the valley...definitely NOT a dog peak). Any fool can climb the mountain with a guide book...if you are competent with your route finding you should be able to figure the peak out without any exact instructions. But its genius to climb the mountain with the wrong route guide;

KLX300 I was going for a balance of highway capable and off road. If I did it again I’d focus more on off road since going much over 50 kinda sucks and eats up gas fast. It is a nice county road commuter at 45.
