Really nice explanation of using the loom. I am a handknitter but have thought about a loom. This series will help in that decision.

Thank you so much for making this video!!! I'm so glad there's a toe-up version because I was going to put cat ears on the sock opening 😸 and I wasn't sure I could do that with all the other tutorials I came across. So easy and straightforward! Thank you 🥳 and Merry Christmas! 🎄

Hi Laurie! I have tried dozens of times to loom knit socks and every time my stitches are sooo tight that I can barley pull them off the peg. The more I knit the tighter it gets. I have tried different looms and different tips and still get the same results. Do you know why this is happening or have any suggestions.

It is definitely a learning curve to be able to adjust your tension while looming. The way I learned to adjust my tension when uknitting (as I am doing in this video, half wrapping a peg and knitting off) is to keep the wrap just tight enough that I can lift the loop over the peg without the wrap coming off. I know, that is easier said then done… but with alittle practice I think it will help you. Now with this sock yarn, the yarn has alittle stretch to it. This is so important so that your sock can stretch when you wear it and not sag in your shoe. So you definitely do not want real tight stitches. However, when your doing the toe increases, I like to keep my stitches alittle tighter so you do not get holes in your toes and heels. So that is the only part of the sock where I usually have some tighter stitches. Remember to half wrap the peg as I do in the video but do not have the wrap real tight… just wrap tight enough to be able to knit the bottom loop over the peg without your wrap coming off. If you feel your stitches start to get tight, after you knit the loop over, use your hook to gently pull the loop on the peg out alittle tiny bit…before unitting the next peg. Try it and see if that helps. Feel free to message me if you need more help. 🥰

thankyou for this great easy to follow tutorial. I'm trying Premier fruits for the first time and wanted to know if anyone could tell me how to make them match. Do I start from the center of the skein or the outside, and just pull till they match? thankyou in advance

Your welcome! Just pick a place in your yarn, preferably where a color changes and start your cast on with that particular color. Take a picture of the yarn you start with so you can start your second pair at exactly the same place. You may send me a DM if you need further explanation or photos. Doing it this way has produced almost perfect matching. Sometimes your at the mercy of the manufacturer of the yarn. But it always gets close!

I do show how to match on this video… you can see I leave about 6” of the gold color and start the cast on where the yarn changes to blue…. take a picture of the yarn laying down before you cast on… then when you finish 1 sock.. you will need to just pull off yarn from either a new skein or the same skein until you get to the same color change in your skein. This yarn you pull off will not be used, you can keep it or trash it that is up to you. You do need to sacrifice some yarn in order to start at the same place and produce a matching sock. Now the fruits you will need 1 skein for each sock.. so what I do before I even start looming is: look at the first skein and see where the color changes and then pull off the yarn on the second skein to match where the first skein color starts. So that both skeins start at the same color. If I’m using 1 skein for both socks (depends on the skein size) after I finish the first sock, pull off as much yarn as you need to in order to get to the same color change you started the first sock with.

I can… but I am unable to use “wool” allergy thing so I can’t give any recommendations for wool sock yarn. What I’ve been using so far is Premier Fruits which you can buy online at Premier or Amazon. 1 skein makes 1 sock so you need 2 skeins. My favorite so far is Perfect Pair by Loops & Threads. It is actually the yarn I am using in these videos. But it has been discontinued and so I can only find it on Ebay! But they still have some. 1 Skein will make a pair. It has 454 yds per skein. Also on Ebay while I was looking I found some Beautiful Bamboo Sock Yarn. It is soooo soft… I started a sock with it but haven’t finished it yet so not sure. Just make sure you look for Sock Yarn #1 weight approx 400yds for a pair!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤ This is, by far, the BEST tutorial for learning to knit socks on a loom! (Sending hugs). I received the KB his/her loom for Christmas and have been looking for a tutorial like this one. The vids I found were not at all helpful, IMO. One gal is left handed, so I couldn’t follow her (I didn’t even know how to hold the yarn as I work.) I was able to do the short rows for the toe, but after that, she lost me. Anyway, the sock yarn you are using looks beautiful. I’d love to know what it is! I’m using “silly socks” by Hobbi. (75% wool, 25% polyamide). Anyway, I want you to be encouraged. Thanks for taking the time to record these tutorials!!!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so glad my videos work for you! I used the Kb Sock Loom for my very first socks. Anyways… the yarn I am using is a discontinued yarn but still available on Ebay. It is called Perfect Pair by Loops & Threads. It is a #1. It is 70% Acrylic, 23% Bamboo and 7% polyester. 1 skein makes a pair. It has 454yds in a skein. I can’t use wool… allergy thing so all my sock yarns are wool free.

@@lschue hmmm. That’s a Michael’s yarn, I believe. I don’t usually shop there, but the yarn looks lovely. I heard somewhere that wool + nylon is best for socks…seems to last longer….but I don’t know how true that is. I really love Knit Picks yarns, so I might try one of their fingering weight yarns soon. Also, Premiere Yarns has a lovely sock yarn. By the way, I ordered the sock ruler from Amazon that you suggested. I’ve started working in the round on my sock, so I’ll do about 40 to 50 rounds, then wait for the ruler to arrive. I wear a size 6 shoe, so I don’t want to go too far, lol!

@@LG-KETO Yes it was a Michaels yarn but it’s discontinued and I can only find it on Ebay. I do wear them in my shoes… they are warm and they are wearing just fine. I just throw them in the washer and dryer and they still look like new! I also love the Premier Fruits Yarn.. available at Premier online and also on Amazon… it is also wool free but is nice and warm as well… maybe not quite as soft as the Perfect Pair Yarn I used on this video but still very nice.

@@lschue thanks. That’s helpful. Never thought of looking for yarn on EBay . Do you have a favorite seller there? Thanks for the info on Premiere Fruits yarn! I’ll check it out!

@@LG-KETO No favorite seller. I have ordered from several and so far have been happy with my purchases. I usually just order the color I want and hope for the best! 😀 It is really nice yarn and I wish they would not have discontinued it. You may certainly use wool yarn if you like it… I just cannot. (Allergy) If your not on any Looming groups on facebook “Loom Knitting For Beginners” or “I love cindwood looms” are 2 great groups where you can find lots of info as well! Maybe someone there can tell you more about Wool Sock Yarns.
