Absolutely great explanation. I have seen many videos on this topic. Never before could I say afterwards that I could at least understand it. Now it's time to practise, practise and practise again. Thank you Kevin

"if you get too much into the drafting part of this, you can lose sight of the portrait..." - good to hear there needs to be a sense of balance in this process. I get so caught up in the technicality sometimes. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your wonderfull tutorials. I wanted to draw faces so I found your Rilley tutorial, by looking at it I realized I didnt know how to draw the helmet so I have watched all your head/Loomis tutorials. That was when it hit me, I wasnt so good at perspective either, so Ive watched most of your perspective videos. And that made me figure out that I just had no clue of elipses and boxes.... and inbthe middle of watching those tutorials... I had to admit I couldnt even draw lines!!!! So Im now on your warmup/lines ones.😂. Anyways, can you give me hints on drawing the helmet 3/4 but in a slight worm or bird view angle?

Did you use the elipse pattern tool for the elipses in your circles? I'm having the hardest time getting my elipses right because im trying to do it freehand. Great videos and explaining.
@KevinMcCainStudios
@KevinMcCainStudios 4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. No the ellipses are hand drawn. I practice ellipses as part of my drawing warm-ups that I do daily. If you practice drawing ellipses for 10 minutes 3 to 5 times a week. After about 6 months you will be able to draw very good ellipses. A great skill to have for drawing.

Would the same concept apply when figuring out perspective middle for figure drawing of the torso boxes as well as hip boxes?
@KevinMcCainStudios
@KevinMcCainStudios 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Katie I haven't used it that way. It would be difficult to use effectively and a little clumsy. Construction shapes to build the torso is much more effective. However finding the centerline can be difficult. To get a feel for the centerline. Buy a 12 inch wooden drawing figure manaquin draw a centerline on it with a permanent marker then practice rotating the figure and place the center line from observation. Draw 30 to 40 of these figures over a 3 to 4 month period. Do 3 a week something easy. Give yourself 10 to 15 minutes to do each drawing. Keep things as simple as possible and you will learn to place the centerline fairly effectively.

Dividing it into sixths doesnt work anymore if thehead is rotated vertically in any manner other then level right? When the head is looking down, the side plane should also shift down making the top 1/6 larger and the bottom 1/6 smaller. Is there any method to adjust the initial drawing stage to account for this or do you just have to eyeball this aspect?
@KevinMcCainStudios
@KevinMcCainStudios Жыл бұрын
If you have drawn the loomis head a hundred times or so you will get a feel for so you can use it to create the Foreshortening for the head in the extreme views. If you are drawing from a you can use proportional measuring as well.
@AndyGibbo
@AndyGibbo 3 жыл бұрын
i think for the last two heads you needed to cut off some on the left hand side of the globe and then find the centre line because you should, at that angle, see some of the cut off from the left
@KevinMcCainStudios
@KevinMcCainStudios 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Andrea I appreciate you watching the video. I enjoyed your comment. In terms of seeing the left side becaise of perspective, you wouldn't see the left side. Not on these views anyways. What would happen is the cut around the corner on the left side, begins to affect the sphere and you get a slight flattening of the curve from the cut plane around the corner, on the left side as the head turns towards the front at a certain point. Its very subtle unless you are close to front view.

@@KevinMcCainStudios very true...it's clearly visible...n u can measure the distance from center I feel it's within the distance...it's irrelevant to cut on the left side.... appreciate the effort to point out and explain in-depth details for both of u guys
