Loopy Knitting! | How to Knit the Loop Stitch | Fun & Simple Texture Tutorial

The loop stitch makes a loop in your knitting that can be adjusted in size depending on the look you want, and this video lesson shows you exactly how to do it.
This stitch is particularly effective when knitting stuffed animal toys (such as sheep) and for cushions.

Thank you for video on this stitch, I'm looking forward to trying it. So glad I came across your tutorial. I totally agree with you that the loop stitch presents a better look when it's created on every stitch as opposed to every other stitch. Other videos I had seen thus far showed the loop stitch made on alternate stitches...I prefer your way 👍

wow I had to subscribe after watching this, your teaching without the music, cutesy jokes and clever comments is so refreshing, you are a master instructor. I am in process this year of using up my stash and this is perfect on your free cleaning slipper pattern on Ravelry. Did you ever try with additional strands, I can imagine with several colors or hand painted it could be phenomenally artistic. Blessings!

Hello, I just wanted to point out that there has been a misunderstanding, I'm the creator of the slippers pattern and I just linked this video on the pattern because I found it useful when I was learning the loop stitch. So this video and the slippers pattern are actually unrelated and they come from two different people :)

Hi thanks for sharing I have thought about this stitch but was worried about trying but your explanation seems very clear. Do you just apply it to any baby cardigan pattern, I just wondered about decreasing and shaping ??

Thank you :) Well, I think it would require some work to substitute it into an existing pattern regarding the gauge etc. From looking around it seems that the loop stitch is mostly used on rectangular unshaped items like washcloths/dusters/scarves/rugs and so on, or use as a 'feature' stripe on a project like sock cuffs or a jumper. This makes me suspect that shaping would be tricky and would like need to be done within stockinette (or garter) stitch edges rather than in the loop stitch itself where it's likely to get messy very quickly! The only garment I found using just this stitch was here: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/loop-stitch-baby-outfit and you can see there is minimal shaping and is quite boxy, but it does show that it's possible. And this sheep pattern: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/loopy-sheep-3 has shaping within the areas of the loop stitch so that will hopefully help you too :)

Can't you knit loop every rows so the loops will nort be so spars? Do you start with one or two rows?

Hi! It's really up to you. If you do loop stitches every row then the loops will be on the front and the back. You could, on the wrong side rows, make the loop to the back of the needles instead - so it can be seen on the right side - but this is quite awkward to do.
