There is a segment of players who are not and will not pay for physical but most of them will move to another game. The other largest group of players is very dedicated and competitive, you don't want to ruin those people's experience. A few people touched on it already but Disney isn't concerned about the money they are losing by this fan project, they're just protecting their IP. The loses they'll take from people quitting their game over this is insignificant as well

Hahaha, i don't play fab anymore but man, really enjoyed the laughs over the table this stream. Digital will never replace the physical experience in tabletop games...

I think the equation of "race to the bottom" as democracy is inaccurate. That race only exists in the market where $1=one vote rather than one person=one vote. A truly democratized market would mean more worker co-ops and that would be a much different landscape. Great food for thought TC! Thanks y'all

Dune Imperium and ark nova are absolutely fantastic games. Played Dune no less than 30 times. Ark nova is new for our group, played three times. Love both these games, best of the best.

The only Dune game I've ever played is Avalon Hill's Dune, and it's such a good time I don't think I need another one! Check it out if you have never played.

i think an important point in the discussion of digital platforms for physical games is begging the question of people playing for free digitally rather than buying physical product. so called "freeloaders" aren't choosing to play for free or pay for product; freeloaders simply won't play at all if you take away the digital option. the argument is not whether it's "net positive" to effectively allow piracy because it provides no negative and only positive. no negative because freeloaders just simply won't buy the product either way and positive because of free advertising

Digital clients are net positive for a game's popularity and community but NOT for the publisher and the game's long term health. The publisher needs residual capital to continue to put out new product. While, yes, there are some on an online client that just will never buy physical product, there are some that if the game wasn't available online to play they would by physical product. The Mona Lisa example is a great point. And Steven is absolutely right with the can't afford and the won't make the payment. The can't argument is absolutely valid. But the won't argument just means its not worth it to you so you don't get to see it, and that’s acceptable but that can't be an argument against as that is a choice. Zach, The Last Jedi was a horrible Star Wars movie. However, agree to disagree and whatever you enjoy… enjoy it, my friend!! When TC does buy that apartment building, please keep me in my when searching for Tenants. My wife may hate it, but this is an opportunity one cannot pass on. She'll learn to love it. Legally there is no grey area. It doesn't matter if you are making money or not. It is copyright infringement. You could run it at a loss and still be found guilty in court. Also, a common consensus with MtG is that Arena has totally cannibalized the Standard format. They are trying to bring it back IRL, but its a real uphill battle.

This live is the only negativity I have seen for Dune Imperium. It is considered by many in the hobby to be the one of the best board games ever made. Weird how the only five people on earth who don’t like it were on this live.

I think Steven is fooling himself if he thinks he has reached the limits of his audience, Covenant's audience is having children and Zach and Steven will likely still be streaming by the time those kids are in their 20s. Here's to 100K by 2037.
