Lord Egerton Castle was build in the 1928 through to 1938 when the foundation was laid but construction continued to 1954. It is a beautiful castle built for Lord Maurice Egerton the 4th Baron Egerton and his fiancee by an Architect known as Albert Brown. At age 47 the Lord was not married, this worried the mother so much and looked for a woman for her son to marry. When the fiancee refused to stay in their first house saying it was a chicken coop, the second house that the manager built for them, she refused to enter it as well saying it was a dog's kennel. This prompted the Lord to build this castle which she likened it to a horse stable and also refused to settle there. The lady went back to Manchester and got married to a richer man.
This made Lord Maurice Egerton very furious and banned any woman from coming anywhere close to it. He even closed his heart from love. He detested women with all his heart and until he died in Kenya in 1958 , he did not marry. The Castle lies on a 21000 acre piece of land. After his death, the castle was raided by the community and vandalized. For 40 years it was not protected. It was opened to the public in 2005 under the management from Egerton University.
