When Moses descended from Mt. Sinai, he encountered evil and unbelief surrounding the golden calf. Similarly, in Mark 9, when Jesus descended from the Mt. of Transfiguration, he encountered an evil spirit and the unbelief of his generation. In this week’s video in “Reading the Gospels through Hebrew Eyes,” Chad Bird looks at Old Testament parallels to Christ’s frustration in Yahweh’s frustration with Israel; the evil spirits who masquerade behind idolatry; and an intriguing exorcism that is documented by the 1st c. Jewish historian, Josephus.
