Hare Krishna
There was a tailor in Delhi whose name was Paramesthi. Although he was very ugly and hunchbacked, he possessed all good qualities and had taken birth in a devotee family. He was a self-realized person, and worshiped Lord Vishnu as his life and soul. He had control over all his senses, was truthful, and free from envy, anger and pride. He was detached from material objects and was always blissful. He understood the temporary nature of this material world, and thus was always engaged in chanting the holy name. His wife, Vimala Devi, was very beautiful, humble and also possessed many good qualities. She was always engaged in the service of her husband. They had two daughters and three sons.
Paramesthi was very expert in his tailoring job. He was so famous for his good tailoring that the Muslim King of Delhi would send his cloth to Paramesthi. Once the King sent some very expensive cloth embroidered with gold and decorated with pearls and diamonds. The King requested that two pillows be made from the cloth. He said to Paramesthi, "You should make it very nicely with flower designs sewn onto the cloth. Make sure no one can see the stitching. If you do a good job, I will pay you handsomely." When Paramesthi saw die cloth, he thought to himself, "This cloth looks and smells so nice. It is only suitable for Lord Jagannath. These pillows the King wants sewn are really meant for Lord Jagannath-how can such beautiful cloth be enjoyed by a human being?"
It so happened that Paramesthi received the cloth from the King during the Ratha-yatra period, when Lord Jagannath would ride in His chariot through Pahandi vijaya. Paramesthi started to make the pillows, and when they were ready, he was very satisfied, as the pillows looked so beautiful. Paramesthi closed his eyes dreamily, and began meditating on the Pahandi Vijaya pastime of Lord Jagannath. He saw that Jagannath looked so beautiful. Thousands of people were there to see the Lord and He attracted everyone's minds. During Ratha-yatra, there is no difference between low-caste and high-caste; devotees from the fourteen planets come to take shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Jagannath. When Jagannath was moved from the temple, He was resting on a pillow. The sevaks moved the pillow forward, and moved Jagannath onto the pillow, and in this way He moved forward, out of His temple and onto His chariot. Paramesthi saw all of this in meditation. Suddenly he saw the pillow burst. He knew the Lord needed another pillow, and so he handed over the pillow he was making for the King, just as if he were standing next to Lord Jagannath. Jagannath took the pillow, and the sevaks continued moving Him towards His chariot.
When Paramesthi came to his external senses, he saw that he had only one pillow instead of two. He suddenly realized that one pillow had actually been taken by Lord Jagannath! Paramesthi was surprised to see this, and felt himself so fortunate that a pillow he had sewn was used in the Lord's intimate service. He was feeling that Jagannath was so merciful to him. He felt fear along with his happiness: one pillow was missing, and there was no doubt that the King would punish him! Then Paramesthi thought to himself, "This person has become the king due only to the mercy of my Lord. He is powerful due to the power of my Lord. So in reality, what can he do to me?"
While Paramesthi was thinking these thoughts, the King's messenger came with an order from the King to bring the two pillows to the palace. Paramesthi immediately went to the King with the one pillow. He offered his obeisance many times then presented the pillow to the King. The King looked bewildered and said, "I ordered two pillows. Where is the other pillow? Have not you prepared another pillow? Tell me the truth-what happened to other pillow?" Paramesthi immediately fell at the feet of the King and explained that the other pillow had been taken by Lord Jagannath. "I have only this one pillow with me, which I am giving to you now. Please accept this one and do whatever you want with me." The King smiled, but inside he was seething with anger. He glared at Paramesthi, and said, "Have you become mad?! Where is your Lord Jagannath? How powerful is He? What can He do by His hand? How is it possible for Him to take the pillow from you? Sri Kshetra Puri is so far from here. How is it possible that He could have come so far in one day and take this pillow from you?"...

When lord Jagganath alights from the stairs (22 stairs inside the temple) during "pahandi bije", a pillow is placed on the particular stair to absorb the shock as a result of which it gets crushed. The same procedure is repeated for all the stairs.

Indian deities are laden with gold and silver jewelery, footwear like jutties and padukas too Temples walls in india have carvings like high heels (have evidence of this) so why then do Indians depict their deities without shoes and not enough gold and silver jewelry? Makes me annoyed to show Indian religions like they’re basic and common, India a very rich country

*पाप-पुण्य और भगवान* ******************** एक सेठ बस से उतरे। उनके पास कुछ सामान था। आसपास नजर दौडाई तो उन्हें एक मजदूर दिखायी दिया। सेठ ने उसे बुलाकर कहा- अमुक स्थान तक इस सामान को ले जाने के कितने पैसे लोगे? आपकी मर्जी जो देना हो दे देना। लेकिन मेरी शर्त है कि जब मैं सामान लेकर चलूँ तो रास्ते में या तो मेरी सुनना या आप सुनाना। सेठ ने मजबूरी में हाँ कर दिया। सेठ का मकान लगभग 500 मीटर की दूरी पर था। मजदूर सामान उठा कर सेठ के साथ चल दिया और बोला- सेठजी, आप कुछ सुनाओगे या मैं सुनाऊँ। सेठ ने कह दिया कि तू ही सुना। मजदूर ने खुश होकर कहा- जो कुछ मैं बोलू, उसे ध्यान से सुनना। मजदूर पूरे रास्ते बोलता गया और दोनों मकान तक पहुँच गये। मजदूर ने बरामदे में सामान रख दिया। सेठ ने जो पैसे दिये, ले लिये और सेठ से बोला- सेठजी, मेरी बात आपने ध्यान से सुनी या नहीं। सेठ ने कहा- मैने तेरी बात नहीं सुनी। मुझे तो अपना काम निकालना था। मजदूर बोला- सेठजी! आपने जीवन की बहुत बड़ी गलती कर दी। कल ठीक सात बजे आपकी मौत होने वाली है। सेठ को गुस्सा आया और बोले: तेरी बकवास बहुत सुन ली। अब जा रहा है या तेरी पिटाई करूँ! मजदूर बोला: मारो या छोड़ो, कल शाम को आपकी मौत होनी है। अब भी मेरी बात ध्यान से सुन लो। अब सेठ थोड़ा गम्भीर हुआ और बोला: सभी को मरना है। अगर मेरी मौत कल शाम होनी है तो होगी, इसमें मैं क्या कर सकता हूँ! मजदूर बोला: तभी तो कह रहा हूँ कि अब भी मेरी बात ध्यान से सुन लो। सेठ बोला: सुना, ध्यान देकर सुनुँगा। मरने के बाद आप ऊपर जाओगे तो आपसे यह पूछा जायेगा कि हे मनुष्य! पहले पाप का फल भोगेगा या पुण्य का? क्योंकि मनुष्य अपने जीवन में पाप-पुण्य दोनों ही करता है। तब आप कहना कि पाप का फल भुगतने को तैयार हूँ लेकिन पुण्य का फल आँखों से देखना चाहता हूँ। इतना कहकर मजदूर चला गया।दूसरे दिन ठीक सात बजे सेठ की मौत हो गयी। सेठ ऊपर पहुँचा तो यमराज ने प्रश्न किया कि पहले पाप का फल भोगना चाहता है कि पुण्य का।सेठ ने मजदूर के बताये अनुसार कहा- पाप का फल भुगतने को तैयार हूँ, लेकिन जो भी जीवन में मैंने पुण्य किया हो, उसका फल आंखों से देखना चाहता हूँ। यमराज बोले- हमारे यहाँ ऐसी कोई व्यवस्था नहीं है। यहाँ तो दोनों के फल भुगतवाए जाते हैं। सेठ ने कहा कि फिर मुझसे पूछा क्यों? अब पूछा है तो उसे पूरा करो। धरती पर तो अन्याय होते देखा है,पर यहाँ पर भी अन्याय है। यमराज ने सोचा कि बात तो यह सही कह रहा है। इससे पूछकर बड़े बुरे फंसे। मेरे पास कोई ऐसी व्यवस्था ही नहीं है जिससे इस जीव की इच्छा पूरी हो जाय। विवश होकर यमराज उस सेठ को ब्रह्मा जी के पास ले गये और पूरी बात बतायी। ब्रह्मा जी को भी सेठ की इच्छा पूरी करने का कोई उपाय नहीं सूझा। ब्रह्मा जी विवश होकर यमराज और सेठ को साथ लेकर भगवानबके पास पहुँचे और समस्या बतायी। भगवान ने यमराज और ब्रह्मा से कहा: जाइये, अपना-अपना काम देखिये। दोनों चले गये। भगवान ने सेठ से कहा- अब बोलो, तुम क्या कहना चाहते हो! सेठ बोला- अजी साहब, मैं तो शुरु से एक ही बात कह रहा हूँ कि पाप का फल भुगतने को तैयार हूँ लेकिन पुण्य का फल आँखों से देखना चाहता हूँ। भगवान बोले- धन्य है वह तेरा सद्गुरु (मजदूर) जिसने तेरे अंतिम समय में तेरा कल्याण करा दिया! अरे मूर्ख! उसके बताये उपाय के कारण ही तू मेरे सामने खड़ा है। अपनी आँखों से इससे और बड़ा पुण्य का फल क्या देखना चाहता है। मेरे दर्शन से तेरे सभी पाप भस्मीभूत हो गये। *इसीलिए बचपन से हमें सिखाया जाता है कि बड़ों की बात ध्यान से सुनो। पता नहीं कौन सी बात जीवन में कब काम आ जाये!*
