Been whistling this oldie for a few days now and decided to "Google It". So glad I found on KZfaq. Sounds as clear as it did back in the day, in the family's basement parties in Bkyln.

How can he be so casual about domestic violence? And how did he get away with it?
@JB-nl6xi2 жыл бұрын
Erline, this song was written decades ago. In a time when political correctness wasn't as it is today. His lyrics reflected the society at that time, as he saw it. There wasn't a single outcry the time this song came out. It shows that Societies perspective and tolerance for things change as they mature. There is much more to celebrate about the artistry of Lord Nelson than those lines you referenced.

It's simple; it's part of our culture especially a few decades ago and we liked it

I don’t think he’s glorifying it, just expressing all the intricacies that revolved around West Indian culture, for example couples will engage in domestic violence yes but will still unfortunately get back together or end up in a band enjoying carnival. You ever wonder how some couples fight just short of killing each other and a few hours later it’s like nothing happened, maybe dey like it.

He was rather casual about wife horning husband too. You cool with that?
