This is one that normally we would walk away from and cut up for spares but just for you, we've been on an epic adventure to try and get a tune out of this 80 year old truck that's been left to stand and seize solid for 30 years.
So buckle up, keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best...
Don't forget YOUR support means we can do MORE of these types of things and all it takes is a Sub, a LIKE and a FOLLOW on my KZfaq and Instagram
Thank you.

This episode is longer than normal and it goes in to detail as to why we wouldn't normally go to these lengths when making a video. If you have the mental capacity of a squirrels ball-sack, can't take in information or are a dull nonce that has little to offer the world, please skip this video and go watch Phil and Holly. The rest of you, Enjoy 😉

You have got to get it going, I was born in London, but through the 1950's I travelled up and down to Sunderland and back London and saw equipment dumps after the war full of these vehicles . I remember those trucks, thousands of them, all gone now, the survivors must be restored. Do it.

I was hatched in 1950. As a child and in a previous life I lived close to a timber yard. The owners had 2 of these old gals hauling huge trailer loads of timber every day. The trailers were massive and the tractor units would be using every bit of power pulling those trailers up an incline. Great work both. Keep at her.

Many moons ago a Glastonbury mud year.. I got to play in one of these. it was a monster. It made a fortune pulling rigs on and off site. It had a huge switch like something off the old Frankenstein movie to start it.. Was told not to brake hard or the cab might fall off. Loved it.

Many thanks for a great watch again, I wasted a lot of time watching you on the tractor run & thoroughly enjoyed it, THEN you post this one about the Matador, I am 72 now but at the age of 19 I worked as a trailer boy on a Matador & pipe trailer for William Press in Kent & that one had all the window frames polished along with most of the copper pipes. It was amazing where we took it especially off road, one got the trailer loaded with pipes bogged & ours was hooked up to it with the winch & we could not move it, enter an RB 22 crane to pull our Matador plus the stuck one, the RB 22 was pulling itself toward us so it was anchored to a large tree & we managed to pull the trailer out, the tension of the total pull was frightening but the Matadors survived it.I have driven many AEC's over the years & just love them. Again many thanks.

This was a brilliant thing, to see the old girls "heart" turning over and potentially saving a piece of history was amazing! These trucks have always fascinated me with their looks, the ungainly looking cab etc. The fair that came to my village and still does had a collection of these little beuts as generator trucks and towing vehicles as well! Great stuff Guys!!

The Maltese Cross on the red background was the flash for Malta Command and the red & blue insignia on the other side would indicate a Royal Artillery Unit. If they were both applied at the same time then the vehicle was probably used by an AA unit (possibly during the siege!), as they made up the majority of RA units on Malta during WWII. Great video as always, keep them coming! Love to see the Matadors!

This randomly appeared in my feed, watched in full with no skipping and loved it, great banter with the English make do and mend mentality. and what a beast that thing is! There use to be a massive scrap yard in Poole, Dorset alongside Ringwood Rd backing onto industrial land, it is long gone now as we use to knock around in it as kids in the late 1980's, it was full of these old birds, many with a turret ring in the roof for a gun mount at guess, I imagine most ended up in the smelting pot, from memory they're were generally pretty solid with good cabs still. Anyhow I've subbed to you lads and look forward to more, have a great Christmas.

Before you go much further I would suggest pulling the sump off . The sludge in the heads reminds me of a 220hp Scania I was working on about 35 years ago . Temperature 30c plus and had to pull the sump to change the oil . First and only time I have changed oil with a shovel . Strange thing is there was still oil pressure before and after . The truck was doing line haul between Sydney and Melbourne doing about 6000k a week or 3 trips It was still going 2 years plus after when I changed jobs still without a problem . Ahhh the life of a diesel mechanic

if anyone tells you that you shouldn't use a 2t lifting strop for towing because it's not strong enough, just point out the massive factor of safety that's built in to any lifting equipment. Polyester strops tend to be 7:1 (it'll have been written on the label before it got ripped off) which is quite a bit more than an equivalent chain. Clearly that doesn't apply if half the strop is missing ;) In an ideal world you'd use something with a bit of stretch to it for towing, it puts less strain on everything and is less likely to shock load and send a towing hitch flying through the air. In this case, I think that's probably exactly what you needed! The old twisted nylon ropes were good for that but you can get flat straps with some give in them too.

And when I say run, I don't mean sit there purring like a kitten at idle, but I think at the very least, she'll try to fire, and kinda run rough, then cough and die again, but I reckon now you've got her free there's probably at least some life there. And hey, if all else fails just dump all the ether down her throat and hope.

Had one of these on a farm I worked on and was used as a grain cart. There is one other way an engine can be seized after being sat for a long time and that's rodents getting into the engine via the intake or exhaust and if you're really unlucky all the way into a piston. The urine with the corrode the hell out of everything.
