Hello Joe. I enjoy the demographical, historical, etc, information you provide in your videos. In reference to this one, I am a native of Virginia and I appreciated the information you provided regarding what the African Americans experienced. I also appreciated you saying that history shouldn't be swept "under a rug". History (good or bad) needs to be disclosed.

Being born in VA it is nice to see what it looks like. It is truly beautiful to look at and see. That one house at 151 Sutherland goes for about 230k 3 br/2ba built in 1911. Beautiful place 2 fireplaces and lots of space for a family. Thanks for sharing and you have safe travels. Happy Holidays to you and yours

Danville has a sizable population of historic preservationists. A lot of preservationists seem to move there and buy the great old houses due to the low prices.

That barn you passed with the round bales of hay at around the 4:00 mark was an old tobacco drying barn. When my Dad was a kid in Virginia, he and his siblings would pick tobacco - that's how they earned the money for their school clothes.

The Miller story is fascinating - I think it was on "60 Minutes" awhile back. I lived in VA for about a year on a work assignment. As a yankee/midwesterner I found it endlessly interesting. People were super nice; lots and lots of history. The drive on Highway 29 through the Shenandoah Valley is gorgeous.

The house for sale in Danville goes for $230k. It was built in 1911 and is about 2000 sqft roughly. The house is not an HGTV quality house, but it looked very nice and could use some light cosmetic updates in the kitchen. That brick building further down the street was a synagogue founded in 1893. The thing that I always like about Virginia is that there is tons of history nearly everywhere you go in the state.

So cool to see the Yeatts tavern ..that is the original home of my family! The graveyard beside the home is the resting place of my 6x great grandparents. During the revolutionary war they would fix wagons, swap horses, and give a safe place for travelers to rest. After the war the state of Virginia gave land on top of the mountains to the Yeatts family for "what they did in the war". They also sent them a bill for "unpaid liquor tax"!! Lol One son moved to the mountain land and some of the family stayed close by but we are still in both places thriving. Whether you spell Yeatts with two T's or one... or you spell it Yates more than likely you can trace the family back to this place. There are Yeatts folks from here to Alaska and all points in between! Again so cool to turn on a video and see HOME!!

I looked up the Masonic temple and found out it has been sold and is going to be renamed River City Towers. It is going to be reopened at some point and is going to become a boutique hotel. River City Towers is scheduled for remodel and it is going to be a hotel (a resort I guess), probably with restaurant and bar of course! You should return when it is open and bring the wife and sample the new hotel, and what it will offer. The you can give a review afterwards on it!

The reason poverty is so high in America for Seniors is Social Security has an income earnings cap of $20,000/year, on people between 62 and their full retirement age which is usually around 67 and 6 months old. If you make more than $20,000/year you have to give back 50% of your social security to Uncle Sam, what a raw deal!! No wonder seniors cant make ends meet!! Social Security has its hand in your pocket!! This needs to be Eliminated and soon!! 😮

To be fair, museums are different from monuments, which are intended to memorialize for reasons beyond just memory. No one's trying to take down museums. So there's a fundamental confusion about whets being remembered, memorialize what exactly in the case of the statues? We don't usually put up statues of losers that believed in lost causes and lost their way morally. They don't have nazi memorials in the same capacity in Germany for example. It's a pretty different intent between putting the monument statues in a museum vs leaving them up to remind everyone that a lot of people had a lot of vested interest in having the war go the other way and that they were sore losers that perpetuated a second class citizenship through the Jim Crow era, and in many ways beyond. They didn't just lose a war, they lost the culture and economy of white supremacy, but they isn't often discussed by people that want to memorialize the war. And northerners had to learn to forget bringing it up because the wound and perceived betrayal in the south was still fresh and raw for decades, even a solid century. Those statues stood for decades and we still forgot plenty, very intentionally along with the reasons most of them were put up in the first place - for glory and insult, and a reminder of who was still in charge in the south - a bit like removing the chairs in the library for the black folks. If they had all these monuments reminding them to treat blacks like equal citizens that deserve to sit in a library like anyone else, or to exercise the amendment to let them have jury duty, then why did they forget? What lessons didn't they learn after the war about their moral failure? Along the way the vested Southerners confused their pride with what was supposed to be their shame - they should wanting to take down these monuments themselves, and putting them in a big equivalent of a holocaust museum to remind them of the moral failure that in many ways continues to this day. They shame is what was intentionally forgotten by erecting these memorials, the statues are the fig leafs covering up the parts they are ashamed of and too afraid to admit, that they are equal human beings with blacks. Covering up the fact that their ancestors died for no good reason and for the wrong reasons. That's what we were all supposed to learn and still keep forgetting because these monuments are still up. And until they come down and until the US finally heals and has its reckoning with race, until that souther pride mindset can be put towards swallowing it' a pride, America will always have that same old fissure and faultline dividing it, and it will continue to be like a knee on the neck of African Americans as well as myriad other injustices large and small for all non-white Americans. All you have to do is read Dubois, or for they matter study anything about the civil war, reconstruction, Jim crow, or the civil rights era and come to terms with it. We shouldn't be nationally worshipping stone figures or the ideas that erected them, especially when those figures and those ideas only stand for folly. But, vest la vie, such is the folly of man to begin with, and the faultline in history. True peace and true shared prosperity, and societies that fully seek truth and goodness will never exist. Now the hard won ideals of equality and pursuit of happiness, and even democracy itself are the lost causes, because the South rising again doesn't mortify enough people. The original proto ethno fascist experiment, unacknowledged for what it was, along with the native American genocide, the unworthy foundations this country was founded on that to this day put it on shaky ground. It's probably way to late to do any thing about all that, and it's apparently still too soon to start too. People are more worried about how stone idols are treated instead of human beings. And that is just part of the profound American tragedy still playing out, and what sparks serious questions about this nation being worthy of its very broad mantle as the land of the free and brave, or of noble enlightenment ideals. We all see where things are going. And now we know just a sliver of the gist of why. Then you learn that Detroit imploded because of racism. Or you look at the states that were vote contested in 2020, states with blacks, states with Latinos. Never forget: Southern pride is really just Southern shame - and now American shame - that it hasn't fully realized and probably never will. The seeds of this nation's destruction put right there in its foundations. And it will quietly grind on until everywhere looks like Detroit eventually and the world leaves us behind while we cling to the 19th and 20th centuries and the lessons we refused to learn ever since.

151 Sutherland is listed at $229,900. Up here in southern BC it would probably be listed at $450,000.

Its 08 February 2024...that house for sale in Danville has been sold and already painted! It was built in 1911 and everything looked really nice inside...but the kitchen needed updating. The value was set at different amounts depending on where you looked....I got $198,000 and then$220,500. It was called the Covey House and has a bit of a history.

Love this man. So much history around us here in va. Are you going to farmville? You can travel Lee's retreat. There's the high bridge trail. It's one of a kind view. Former railroad bridge but no longer used.

A roof over a mobile home is quite common here in Nc as the roofs over time will need to be replaced and a roof over the home will also help with cooling and heating

The glass in the first interior picture is very old. Glass is kinda a living thing. It flows...albeit super slowly. I wouldn't be surprised if that glass is original.

Chatham Court House we were able to go thorough the actual land documents of our relatives over 12 years ago. It was amazing but I fear that all these records will be lost some day.

Hi Joe and Nic. House at 151 Sutherlin Ave in Danville is listed at $229,900 and was built in 1911. It has 3 bdrms and 1.5 bath and is 1,965 sq ft. Beautiful inside with good upgrades. No pics of yard but the lot is 5,328 so it's a great size overall. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Xmas and New Year's 🙂💛
