That’s because they sort of became a cult in footballing terms in Mzansi. The kind of style they used to play was loved by the majority. There was a gentleman, Ewert “The Lip” Nene, who had a hawkish eye for talent, which would shame your best stars of today. On top of that, football was thee prime entertainment for us back then, as we had a dearth of amenities. In general, most of the clubs had entertainers among them, hence our stadia were always packed , regardless whether the team was strong, popular or not.
