My mom said something similar. She said she was ready to go and told us to "pull the plug". We were like "Mom, you are not plugged in to anything so there is nothing to pull" 😂 She peacefully passed away a couple of days later while I was holding her hand. It was, as the Victorians used to call it, a "good death". She lived a good and long life and peacefully passed with family. It sounds like Loretta Lynn had a similar death. She was at peace in her mind and spirit and just let go.

Our greatest comfort lies in this one thing, knowing that while she was still here and the blood still flowed through her veins, that there came a day in her life when she fell on her knees and cried out to God, "Lord would you save a poor sinner like me? and save her He did. We believe this is true because... we could see Christ in her life - His light shining through. She has gone home now to be with the Lord, She has laid down her cross to claim her reward and for a period of time we all will grieve, but we can smile through our tears, because here's what we believe... Someday soon, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, we will hear God's call and the dead in Christ shall rise, and we the redeemed will be gathered together in the presence of our Lord, where we will know only joy, peace and happiness. And separation will come no more. So we will hold on to this promise and never let it go. It will carry us through this valley of grief. It will lift us up when we are feeling low. When those memories come around as they will down through the years... we will remember God's promise and we will smile through our tears.

They have not done a music biopic film yet. I think "Coal Miner's Daughter" is to music biopics what "Rocky" is to sports films. It would be a perfect film to start that journey.

My mother's best friend always said, "The last breath you take on Earth is the first one you take in heaven." It gave my mother much comfort since even as a religious person, she had fear about death. I kept telling my mother her friend's words as I held her hand as she was making her transition. I like to think it gave her peace. I know it was a powerful experience for me. RIP Loretta Lynn.

@@diannen4225 You're very welcome. As I was talking her through her transition, I kept reassuring her that I was going to be fine, that she was going to see my Dad, her parents, her brothers, etc. I mentioned all the important friends and family by name. She had a mechanical heart valve so I could hear it slowing down so that's when I really kept reminding her about that first breath in Heaven. It was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, but also the most amazing.

2 legends right there!! Thank you for honoring her today. Loretta was the most awarded female country artist. The first female to win Entertainer of the Year. She had 14 songs banned from radio because she wrote and sang about real life. She was ahead of her time. I watched Coal Miner's Daughter today. It's still a great movie. It's preserved in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress for being considered culturally & historically significant. The movie starts off on 1935 when Loretta is 13. Sissy Spacek who plays Loretta and Beverly D'Angelo who plays Patsy Cline do all of their own singing. This us a great movie!

In 1977, I was a hard rock fan. My girlfriend was a huge country music fan. As a surprise for her, I got us tickets to see Loretta Lynn, with Mickey Gilley opening, at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland. It’s still one for the best concerts I’ve ever seen. Perfectly paced, Loretta played the crowd as brilliantly as her guitar. I finally understood why country music is so popular.

This song perfectly illustrates the importance of context between song and singer. Neither Loretta of Willy are the singers that they once were. Having experienced a long life of joy and pain their voices now have a weathered quality that perfectly fits the somewhat melancholy lyrics. Much like the cover of "Hurt" by Johnny Cash, the imperfection of their vocals is what sells the song. I really like this performance.

For Amber & her Father, like mine… God saw he was getting tired And a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered “come with me.” With tearful eyes we watched him suffer and fade away. Although we loved him dearly we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us… He only takes the best. 💔

A couple days ago, I watched a documentary on her life on "American Masters" on PBS and it was amazing. She said that if she got mad at her husband for his misdeeds, instead of just running out of the marriage, she used it to write a song about it, so most of her songs are autobiographical. She shocked the world when she recorded the song "The Pill" (not sure if you reacted to this one). It was banned on a lot of Country Music stations in the south but then were forced to play it once it became a huge hit for her. I was shocked to learn that she had a friendship with Jack White of the White Stripes and he actually produced one of her albums.

Loretta was also part of a trio back in the 90's with Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton called the "Honky Tonk Angels". I believe they only put out one album before Tammy passed away. The official video for their single "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" (a Linda Ronstadt cover) features a who's who of cameos from a wide assortment of artists and legends, including Chet Atkins, Bill Anderson, Little Jimmy Dickens, etc.

My grandmother introduced me to Loretta when I was a child. Never heard this song before. Thank you. I cried thinking of my grandmother and Loretta. The movie about her life Coalminer's Daughter is one of the best movies ever.

There is a You Tube video of Loretta's words to her fans recorded before she passed. It is very much worth a reactions. Gives me tears each time I hear it. I have beautiful memories of times spent with Loretta. She was so kind and had a beautiful Lady.

Thank you so much for honoring Loretta and reacting to this beautiful song, along with Willie Nelson! I cried right along with you both! I lost my Mama last year and Loretta was one of her favorite country singers! I've heard most of her songs but I haven't heard this one. It is very comforting to think of the peace that they sing about! Thank you, Lord, for that comfort!

Great reaction, Jay and Amber! This song is beautiful and very sad, indeed. My father has been gone 46 years while my two younger sisters and I were still in school and mother has been gone over 38 years. She died while I was carrying my only living child, my daughter, who I am very grateful for. She and my husband helped me through all of the pain and sorrow. We lived 3000 miles away, then. There were eight of us children all together and it was tough. We were the only ones so far away. Keep on listening and you will find more joy and understanding. There is another song you will enjoy that is solute to those who have entertained us and had passed on to "Rock "N Roll Heaven, sung by the Righteous Brothers. The song is, AWESOME!

Her voice will always make me think of my mama she passed in December last year. An i spent the last 12 years takin care of her. An i will never feel like i did enuff. But she sure loved Lorettas music. She couldn't speak for the last year of her life. But wen i would put on the music she loved. She would sure try to sing it. Her favorites were Elvis her most favorite. An Conway Twitty an Loretta Lynn were her favorite country artist. Conway has a song reminds of my dad called Thats My Job.

This is another beautiful thing about country music. No matter how old you might be, there’s always room in the country music family for you…. Also, there’s something almost foreshadowing that happens with some of our older heroes. Johnny with Hurt, Kenny singing with Dolly in You Can’t Make New Old Friends and then his song Goodbye, and Merle with Willie in It’s All Going to Pot, and then this one… they leave these amazing memories behind.
