See and celebrate the City of Angels through the lens of street photographer and 2 Live and Die in LA curator Frankie Orozco. Frankie grew up in Los Angeles in the mid-1980’s and found his passion for photography in the diverse and marginalized groups that make up Los Angeles. Shooting the Dog Town Scene and skaters of Venice Beach to The Mongols, gang culture and Skid Row, Frankie developed a rich photography portfolio. But when Frankie approached local galleries for a show, they made it clear his work did not fit the image these galleries wanted to portray to their affluent clientele. Frankie took a different approach and created his own art photography event to showcase local art and to preserve Los Angeles cultures too frequently being erased by gentrification. This event, 2 Live and Die in LA, celebrates Los Angeles culture through photography and art. Now in its 6th year, 2 Live and Die in LA provides a platform to over 50 local up and coming artists as well as local legends, 40 vendors, live performances and food. In an effort to give back to the community, Frankie started a mentor program to teach photography to several of LA’s inner city youth. Canon USA recognized and appreciated the value of Frankie’s program and generously sponsored Frankie’s mentor program. Canon donated cameras to each of the mentees. Canon also set aside time to teach the mentees how to use their new cameras!
