Interview with Dad about the two engine failures he had in our Cessna 310's. This does not include the one in our F35 Bonanza which he talks about briefly. Now he does tell a story that is for entertainment purposes only and is what you DON'T want to do in a twin-engine airplane.

This was a very interesting video!!! Amazing about the single engine take of from kpdx!!! And the 2nd plane, the Baron twin, I thought I saw a bit in the article about the belly landing that said the engine quit on only the 2nd day your dad had owned the plane!!! Sounds like your dad was very quick to identify a problem and get right to the solution calmly and fast enough to prevent any kind of complicating issues like a stall or having the good engine roll it over. Very glad you and your family made it through all those years of flying without a major accidents and lived to tell the story!!! Good video! Ive been watching videos from various other pilots who have looked into the sad ending of the TNflygirls flight. I wanted to learn more about that plane so i got it for my flight sim but thats as close to being a pilot I will get at this stage of life. Thanks for sharing this info!

Thank you for the comments and kind words, appreciate it. The engine failure was in our F35 Bonanza, it was the second day we owned it as you mention :(. I learned more about flying that day than any other. It was the ultimate test you could say. The difference between training for it and having an actual life-threatening emergency can't be put into words properly. Our instincts overpowered our fear is perhaps the best way to describe it. The fear of getting killed was greater than the fear of doing the right thing. We also benefited greatly from having flown together all those years as a crew. We had a natural CRM (cockpit resource management) so even though I never had a PPL I ended up logging 550hrs of flight time, majority of that in our twins & left seat time in our AA-1. Thanks again!

Interesting video. I have owned 4 310s over the years, currently own a 59 310C (25 years so far). Interestungly, the USAF bought a number of 310As (originally designated L27, later U3A) and some 310Es, designated U3B. Cessna performed extensive flight tests on both, including single engine takeoffs, drift down ceiling tests, accelerate-stop and accelerate-go testa, among others. Data from those tests is shown in the USAF U3 flight manual, which is a great reference for early 310s. Once in flight and under control, the very effective trim tabs (rudder, aileron and elevator) of the 310 can offset most of the force required in single engine flight. They are great twin engine planes IMHO.

Agree and that's great info. The C is one my favorite 310's, Fi and aux fuel. Wish we had that in our 55. It was the reason we purchased the B55 Baron which we flew for 10 years. Later on we were back in a 310P and loved that bird. Thanks for commenting and watching 😁👍

@@maxtanicfilms I love my C. Last year of the straight tail, first year of the 260 HP fuel injected engines, also the last of the 310s without a rudder-aileron interconnect spring.. A fun, fast and challenging airplane. U also had a then new 75 T310R, later a T310P, then a 310D. While I had the D I bought a 72 B55, a very n8ce, easy to fly plane. Had it for a while, but liked the 310 better (bigger, more comfortable, just as fast or a little faster, and more challenging to fly well, plus being more comfortable for big guys like my Dad and I. I just love 310s!

@@jamesnelson7415Too funny, nearly our same experience. The 310 really has a ramp presence about it as compared to the Baron. It stands tall but yes the 6 inch wider cabin makes a massive difference. 😊

@@maxtanicfilms Yes, that big cabin really spoils you. Of course, the 310 was designed as a twin from the ground up, whereas the Baron was a Bonanza fuselage with two engines grafted to it. A very nice airplane as well. A friend looked inside my D while the interior was out and exclaimed "It's cavernous!"
