Neither one should own a dog, letalone that type of dog. It's actually not uncommon for this to happen. People think it's just some scratching. The problem is, pit/bully breed grip and shake does a heckuva lot of internal damage. It separates the layers of flesh, destroying blood supply. Which gives the bacteria some excellent breeding grounds. Sepsis occurs, a lot don't make it. Also, look up proper wound care for your animals. Even cpr and heimleich. It can save you a lot in vet bills and save your animal's life.

I will admit the plaintiff definitely dropped the ball on the dog’s initial care after the attack, but understandably a new dog owner who doesn’t know any better could make that mistake if they are just looking at it by eye and thinking it’s just a scratch. That was a HUGE cyst on that dog's neck. As soon as the swelling started to be the size of a marble, and it was seeping (which it probably was, but subtly), she should have taken the dog to the vet. But, like she said, they probably just didn't have the money to do so. Many people hesitate taking their pets to the vet because they are unsure how much the cost will be. They tend to compare it to human health care.

you have to watch using peroxide. My experience has been that it makes the wound open up. You're better off washing it with soap and water. I only use peroxide once or twice if there's pus, then just keep the wound clean.

Dogs don't die overnight from neck accesses. The infection can erode into a blood vessel and cause sepsis, but the likelihood is more remote than overnight. Usually, these untreated accesses rupture. The presence of the infection developing can make the dog feel ill in addition to causing a lot of discomfort. They do usually need clinical treatment to resolve and heal.

She even claims she waited a few days to look things up on the internet? to me, she was negligent, therefore the dogs condition got worse/infected due to lack of care and thus, the vet bill was higher than it initially should have been. Defendant shouldn't have been responsible for all of this.
