I’m high raw vegan and my menstrual cycle is finally regular for the first time in my life. I’ve never had a regular period, even at the start of menstruation I’ve been irregular. I’ve been high raw vegan for a year now and my cycle is healthy and predictable. I went on this diet in hopes I could heal this reproductive health problem of mine, and I’m so happy plants have been able to help me heal

I’m so glad it’s helped you!! I had the exact same experience! Since I was 13, eating animal products for the next 21 years I’d go predictably 3-9 MONTHS without a period. It ONLY normalized by going raw vegan and have been monthly for the last 3.5 years.

hair loss is due to weak adrenals. I lost my hair on a vegan diet, it barely came back with animal protein. Now, just detoxing and taking an adrenal glandular and my hair is growing back. ITS THE ADRENALS and most ppl have adrenal weakness

That’s exactly why I mentioned stress! Totally. We put so much stress on our bodies and don’t realize how much it effects our hormones and health. I know so many “healthy” omnivores that lost their hair in stress. Diet is only a small part

I never heard of people losing hair on raw vegan... however I have hair loss but I am confirmed estrogen high and have a large fibroid... hormonal imbalance can contribute to hair loss... but there are other things that contribute to hair loss but it is invariably helped with fiber, cleansing and elimination of toxins and raw vegan will typically help flush out extra estrogen and reset the liver to rebalance hormones... which all might contribute to temporary changes re hair and cycles

Well “cure” is a word I don’t like to use because I’m not a doctor and I don’t wanna blanket statement. But if you aren’t eating animal products that leech calcium from the bones, and you’re eating high calcium foods like greens, you’re probably very unlikely to get it unless it’s genetic/other reasons. Cures really depend on where you came from, what you ate before, your genetics and other factors. Eating raw is just a great way to help the body. It’s not the cure to everything 100%.

To know why these things happen, it's necessary to understand how we as humans (same process for ALL humans) process food. Digestion, absorption, utilisation and elimination. These have to work harmoniously with each other and if one or more is compromised, then there will be distress on the body causing various symptoms.....

I never not missed a period being VGF. As matter of fact I've had my period since October due to a DR at the Veterans adminstration who decided to stop my depo shot because of an exam. I have endo/Ando and need to depo to control it. I've gained 7 lbs due to it and hired law firm to sue the VA due to poor medical practices.

The great thing about getting our periods regularly is we can use that as intuitive birth control .. Just like I used that to get pregnant. Well now I have had a tubligation ,but I’d know 10-12 days After I started my period I’m ovulating.

Hi, Lissa. I know this is an older video, but hopefully you'll see this comment. I have a concern related to hormones. My last baby is almost 2 years old. And even though I was pregnant with him in my 40s, this last pregnancy was the best I've had. It was also my vegan pregnancy, and I did my best to be high raw. So I thought that my hormones were in a really good spot, as everything went so well. That was until 8 months later. Now, almost every month I have an evening with symptoms that are similar to the flu that last for several hours with low temperature. The next morning I feel fine again. I found a naturopath who specializes in balancing women's hormones. But I was put off trying her, because she said that her clients who are raw vegan have the worse imbalance of hormones. How can this be? When I feel better in almost every way the more raw my diet is, how could it be throwing my hormones off? Can you address this? Are there certain foods or supplements to look at for getting hormones back on track? Thank you!
@RawFoodRomance
@RawFoodRomance 3 жыл бұрын
This is a really in depth question and because I’m not a doctor I can’t say why this is for you. We all know that pregnancy itself changes our hormones, no matter what diet you’re on. Hormones change when restriction happens and the vast majority of people eating a raw diet are also under eating. They might think they are eating enough but when we check, they are always in the 800-1200 calorie a day range. Which will certainly cause hormonal imbalances again, no matter what diet if you’re under eating, it will affect hormones and other body systems. Aim to eat adequate calories (well over 2000 - I eat 2400-2700 a day) and please don’t do zero fat. Use healthy fats but stay in the low fat range. If you’re eating enough, then 10% is still a good amount. Chia, flax, hemp and other omega 3 rich sources are good. Age also plays a role. A raw diet isn’t immortality or the cure for everything, it’s just a really healthy way to eat if done correctly with abundance snd variety

@@RawFoodRomance I so appreciate your time in replying to me. Thank you! I will keep pushing forward. Perhaps I just need some patience at this point. I do check my eating with Chronometer often and pull my favorite meals from you, okraw, and highenergyparenting. All 3 of you have been practicing raw for many years, have clarity and sound research behind what you say, and are very similar. There are too many who have raw vegan channels who unfortunately don't have a solid foundation and keep changing their minds. I am grateful, so grateful to have found you and point so many your way when there is a video you've done that addresses issues they are struggling to understand. So I will examine areas I can improve and push forward. Thank you again!

Lissa - great commentary however, stress is quite possibly the lowest factor for amenorrhea - if you don’t menstruate you can still ovulate meaning, you could be ovulating in preparation for a cycle that's about to start, or you could be ovulating without having actual periods. Any time you ovulate, you can become pregnant. Some people menstruate regularly and some don’t and stress is a minimal factor. Bad diet can cause lack of ovulation, fibroids, pcos - etc. no amount of stress, could cause the hypothalamus to stop functioning other than surgery, traumatic brain injury, tumors, and radiation. Other causes include: Nutrition problems, such as eating disorders (anorexia), extreme weight loss. - ♥️ Heiress Lark Pre Med

What has changed between what you were doing 4 years ago, and what you are doing now? I ask this question because you are not as thin as you were 4 years ago. (This is not a bad thing, but I have observed a pretty major difference and I'm curious why that is?) More fats now? More calories now? Different foods now? It would be great to know.

I really haven’t changed much except adding way more variety of veggies and fruit for gut health. Some days I may eat a little more fats but it’s not much different than when I started cuz I did that too back then. I still strive for low fat. I think I was much more sedentary over the last 4 years and I work way, way more than I used to for sure. I never did this for weight loss though or to be a specific body shape. I did this for overall health and in continually working on maintaining and improving that. I’m also entering perimenopause and that can change a lot of things too. Bodies shift, change and fluctuate and it’s all beautiful. I don’t wanna force my body to stay the exact same just to maintain an image online or what people think I need to look like to prove what I eat is healthy, especially when the smallest I was, was after divorce…. I’m not a fan of diet culture and it’s been nice to distance myself from all that noise. My body does what it wants and I love it all ways, as should everyone. I also personally think my face was quite gaunt in the early years (especially right after my big divorce….. the stress had me losing way too much weight beyond the 70 I lost. I actually lost almost 90 lbs total but I never talk about those last ones because they were unhealthy stress related from the divorce) so I had to gain some back to be healthy and I prefer the fullness now. My gut health is the best it’s ever been so imma stick with that too 🩷

Thanks so much for responding to this. I love your response and yes, I agree, sometimes we lose way too much weight when we are under stress. You are very beautiful and it's amazing to see that the lifestyle is giving you energy even perimenopausal to go on hikes. There is a vibrancy in your eyes and your health on this lifestyle is very evident.@@RawFoodRomance

Thank you very much for seeing that. I feel that society places far too much emphasis on body shape and looking young as opposed to health and if someone changes at all (gains 5 lbs or gets a wrinkle etc), suddenly they are doing something incorrectly, or the diet doesn’t work, etc which makes the viewer justified to keep eating a diet that isn’t helping them. I’ve seen it so often and it’s sad. I’ve seen people say “that person has wrinkles or gained weight so raw food doesn’t actually work” so they just continue to eat whatever. But it’s actually raw food is just a huge support for the body, not a miracle for immortality. It’s really just life, changes and being a normal human. If we are expected to never age, never get sick, never change, never gain a lb, etc that can put a lot of pressure on a person who may start doing dangerous things to stay in a shape that their body just doesn’t want at that time. Thank you again for all the kind words too, it really meant a lot to me 🩷🥰

An interesting primate fact which blew my mind many years ago is that while female chimps and other Great Apes have a fertility cycle like that of humans with similar uterine lining changes, they do not slough masses of blood and tissue; a phenomenon considered "normal" in human females. In our primate cousins, it seems that the small amt of fluid 'cushion' in the uterine lining is simply and painlessly re-absorbed. Similarly, childbirth is a prolonged and painful ordeal for humans. This is not the case in healthy primates in a natural setting. I believe that when vegans, raw foodies or others moving away from a "traditional" toxic human diet observe a lessening or cessation of the menstrual pathology we call "normal" that's a GOOD thing. it indicates a move toward better, possibly optimal human health.

Yup I’ve heard this theory floating around. When I ate junk and animal products I’d miss my cycles sometimes 5-9 months at a time. When I went raw they became regular for the first time since I started menstruating and has been “normal” with no change for 4 years so...

@@RawFoodRomance Hi Lissa, I understand your point. Btw, I just want to say I appreciate your content. You're a wonderful creator and an inspiring example of the beauty of raw. I'd like to add one more thought re. the menses (making senses of the menses :) and hope you find it interesting. First, to clarify my original comment; even though there was a time when humans were eating the diet that nature designed us for - fruit and tender green leaves - many thousands of generations have brought us to where we are now. So regardless of the biology of wild primates, the menstrual symptoms that modern human women experience really ARE the present normal. It makes sense that when one is eating junk and animal products, their body may be so overburdened, toxic and stressed that gathering the metabolic energy for the monthly sloughing-off might be impossible for it, hence no periods (and when waste is retained, the body attempts other avenues for elimination...such as acne...). So your experience is exactly what might be expected. By going raw and vastly improving your health, you achieved the regular 28 day cycle that is the norm, with the bonus of little to no discomfort - a huge gain for you. But I think it's important to not assume that cessation of menstrual symptoms is necessarily a result of nutritional deficiencies. There is another end to this spectrum, where some women are vibrantly healthy and experience little to none of the usual menstrual symptoms. A young colleague of mine (raw vegan for several years) is a competitive cyclist, has perfect blood work and, as she describes it, "virtually unnoticeable" periods. She credits a 26 day (supervised) water-only fast with elevating her health beyond where she was, even as a very healthy raw vegan. Everyone is different, and perhaps some women's metabolisms are able, given optimal conditions, to manifest some of the health traits of our long-ago primate ancestors. It's a fascinating journey, both intellectually and physically (not to mention spiritually). You are doing great work, Lissa. Take care and all the best to you and Nathan.

@@rangercody758 In the ringing cedars Anastasia says that the periods and child birth should not be painful. One of the readers of these books went onto write a book herself. It is quite controversial but it is stuff on birth trauma and concious conception. I am not sure she gets much into diet apart from babies blood being stolen from the placenta. Anyway she is Jeanice Barcelo if you are interested.
