I think its all great , to see someone getting results is excellent. I think the way you dismantle gypsy jazz GUITAR and build it back up again for someone learning is incredible ......the one thing i will say though , is no matter what you end up learning , you have to find a way to find your own voice. Being amazing with the metronome is a skill in itself but don't ever forget that no one taught Django how to do a mad chromatic run or to use open strings for a quick vamp. He did it because he felt like it , it was his own confidence and personality . Never lose the feeling that makes you play to begin with, work on that and you will climb any mountain. I admire you and anyone who is out there learning........... but never forget ..... at the end of the day , you will need to play for your own spirit so never get disheartened and always take a step away from the metronome from time to time , we are not robots :).....please don't take this as a negative comment , i mean it in a sincere way. The world is only a better place with your teachings and massive respect as always Christian , thank you !

Thank you Christiaan! This is super helpful. I'll have to rewatch some parts again with my guitar in hand. And phrases, not licks. Noted.

Like this video. I’ve seen this dude before. I can’t sit there for two hours watching him, but I like his determination. And - definitely phrases not licks 😉

At 1:18:28 I think it isn't good advice to say to him to go jam, he said he can't play a cohérent solo at home on a tune, how is he going to play a solo in a high pressure environment? What I do is I learn 3 minutes of a fully prepared solo (like a classical piece) on every tune I'm about to play. In a high pressure environment you're 100% going to fail to improvise and then I can fall back onto my prepared solo that I can play 100%. This way it becomes way more comfortable because I know that for every tune I'm about to play I can always fall back onto my pre studied solo that I know inside out. Memorizing a full chorus is really helpful because it also fools everyone into thinking I'm a great improviser but actually I stole all those choruses note for note from high level players haha but at least it sounds good.

I think what he’s saying is you can play with other people without it being a “high pressure environment”. Just a chill jam session where there’s virtually no stakes.

@@JaxonBurn Yes in that case he should absolutely go to a jam session if it's just with friends in a living room. But I think if you play in public with people watching and you fail horribly it would be really hard to get onto your feet after that. At least I would, it would really dent my ego haha

Finally someone agrees with me! lol You're the first. The prepared solo sounds like a solid idea. Btw nice channel!

@@Ludwig_Cox I've failed horribly in front of audiences a few times with music (I played rhythm for a while) and other non-music situations. That's why I know that jumping into a jam right now would be premature and damaging.

@@JaxonBurn That would be nice but the jam sessions where I live are public and high-pressure speed showcases.

Just my experience: Book 1 is a great primer for Book 2. I still go back to it for licks (I mean, phrases) and concepts.

Book 1 is the best 50 euros I've ever spent. It also takes a very long time to get into your fingers because there is a lot of content
