Fantastic advice. A little story-I'm a bit of an older viewer and was just passionately in love with art as a child in the 80-90s all the way through university. That "feeling" art gave me back then was entirely unencumbered by adult real world expectations and there was never any friction with making it. Around 2005-ish, I tried to make a career of it (ironically right before smart phones or social media really took off), so I wasn't successful enough to support myself and ended up burning out on making art during that time since I was going hard at it for survival and wasn't making what I loved. I ended up giving up on it as a career and moving on to a non-art career which I don't love but supports me. I always told myself I'd keep art as a hobby, but I stopped making art entirely for about a decade. During the 2020 lockdowns, I was decluttering my house like most folks trapped inside, and I started digging through my very old artwork from grade school my mom had saved... I was drawing nothing but dinosaurs, dragons, Ninja Turtles back then. ☺Those pieces had that "feeling" that you were talking about not seeing in some of your own work. This was very different from the human art I was forcing myself to draw during my attempts at a career later on. So, I started drawing the things my young self would have loved and that's what brought me back to art. Of course, it's not exactly the same. Like you also said, after a depleting day of work, it's hard to tap into that creative feeling flawlessly all the time... reducing friction and always having a sketchbook and simple supplies nearby helps. I also complete all my adult tasks during the workweek so I can reserve the weekends for my art, as best I can. I do want to tell everyone this though, when it comes to taking breaks. Breaks are important for artistic growth and mental health, and whether you stop making art for a week or a month or ten years (and I say this as someone who isn't doing it for work, so I realize there are limitations there if you are), it's never too late to come back to it. I was barely rusty after ten years, and I got back into it like no time had passed. I'm not one to regret the time I lost because I believe things happen the way they're supposed to happen and I likely needed that time to get my life settled the way I needed it. But I'm happy to say that even spending a chunk of my life without expressing that creative spark, it's still with you and you just need to listen to your body and give it what it needs, whether it be time or exercise, etc. Again, fantastic advice; it's very realistic while also showing yourself kindness and patience. I love your videos and you are one of the art KZfaqrs I found when I was first getting back into art and reintroducing myself to this whole online art world. I love making art with you on Saturday mornings. This is a beautiful sketchbook spread! Have a nice day~

If you're interested in polish folk costumes and older art I recommend watching The Peasants. It's also animated using oil paintings and looks really beautiful at times.

You have no idea how much I needed this video. I've lost my spark and have been fighting with art for about 10 years. I have the desire to be creative but even the thought of drawing makes me TIRED. I know there are a few elements contributing to why I feel this way but I'm really trying to get over those just so I can enjoy drawing again. Anyway one of the things I miss is the community of just making art to share, to exchange and have fun with others. It seems like everybody just wants to hustle and make money. Gone are the days of Deviantart and Tumblr but those are the times when I had the most fun with art. I related so much to this video and I'm still going to try and find that spark but honestly I feel that if I don't pick up a pencil again, I wouldn't be bothered. But no other hobby gives me the same satisfaction as art. The struggle is real.

The shorter dress as you said is from Czechia, it's from a region of Slovácko. I was so excited when I saw the girl in a Czech costume in the thumbnail. I live near this region and love traditional Czech clothing, so I was happy to see it in your art. All of these are great as always, you're such an inspiration to me. Have a lovely day ☺️❤️❤️

The "Elsa and Anna" dresses are based on norwegian Bunads if I'm not mistaken. I'd suggest you look into them, they vary from region to region and have different colours, patterns and accessories based on where they are geographically from. There's a bunch of rules around what kind of bunad you're supposed to wear based on your heritage 🙃 and you could also look into the sami kofte of the natives, I don't know much about them since I'm not native myself, but they're beautiful and I'm sure there's a lot of variations and history there as well.

I worked on a personal project while watching this! I'm branching out and trying something new with my art because I was really burnt out for a while because of difficulties in my life right now and taking care of a sick loved one. It has drained me creatively, but I had some free time tonight and wanted to try something new. Listening to this was nice, like having a friend to do stuff with 😊

i stopped drawing for about 5-6 months because i moved in with someone and had such a small room that i just felt i couldn’t draw. i moved out 4 months ago into my own place and i finally drew for the first time 3 days ago.

When I was in animation school, a lot of us were feeling this way or like 'bad' that they weren't drawing for themselves, and one of my teacher put it in the best way: This is boot camp, and you're training all day, everyday. When you go home, you don't do more push-ups! That was really eye-opening for me and let me be kinder to myself about it, and even now that I've graduated, I still think about it often since I'm still healing from that burnout and just now starting to enjoy drawing for myself/personal things again. I really do believe that, we put so much pressure on ourselves as creatives, especially because of how flooded we are from social media, but from what I've experienced, creativity comes in bursts, and that's fine. Also, I've found that doing only tangentially related helps a lot too (ie: animating for work vs painting for me) in keeping those juices flowing! So my advice would be to try something else that's creative! I've really been wanting to try pottery and tufting and they're on my new years resolution! All that to say that I feel you, and even if it doesn't feel like it, it'll pass ❤

do you think that maybe a part of the eclectic/chaoticness came from not having to think about sharing your sketchbook online? I know you've been sharing your sketchbooks for awhile now (its helped inspire my own sketchbooking lol) but its something I think about when drawing in mine. When I think about "Oh do I want to share this page with friends, or will it just be for me?" I find myself tightning up and being more of a perfectionist about the page so I don't feel as creative/or go about exploring on it. Either way it's still a lovely spread and it was fun drawing along with you!💚😌🤟

This spread is gorgeous! Makes me want to work on my own rendering clothing process more. I was working on crocheting myself a dragon plush while watching/listening, it will have been the first thing I’ve crocheted for myself (instead of as a gift for someone else) in a couple of years!
