Absolutely stunning. Not a fan of tortured animals but that was a different era. Gorgeous gowns. Would love to see this in color. The world was simpler and better back then.

The bizarre 1950's game show QUEEN FOR A DAY usually had a "fashion show" segment in the middle of the broadcast. Then, at the end of the show, the winner would be givenas part of their prize the gowns the models had worn. The contestant was usually an overweight middle aged matron and the dresses were sized for the gamine Hollywood models. This video segment is from the Christmas week Broadcast of QUEEN FOR A DAY. The announcer is Jeanne Cagney, James Cagney's sister.

I'm a 'guy' (and I do use that term VERY loosely!) and I think that the days of this way of fashion and dressing was fabulous, grand and to be held on the pedestal that the women of then deserved to sit on high above lowly males! Too many women/girls today have no appreciation for their femininity. Heck, many don't even carry a purse anymore! My most adored pastime is cross-dressing and when I go out day or night I am often the best dressed woman wherever I happen to be.

The line about the model looking all ready for a coronation would seem to date this to Dec 1952.

@wallygreeninker Are you talking about Queen Elizabeth II? If so, that was June, 1953.

i'm not for excessive waste of animals for fur for no reason but anyone who has lived in FREEZING 30 below weather would be begging for fur! it makes sense! it keeps them warm so it'll work with us, and they are beautiful, it's is a function. and ty for the vid it was awesome

Because people today take themselves way too seriously in the wrong manner. Look how they go out these days. I come across ladies that definitely can afford elegance and wear yoga pants and extremely expensive bags and autos. The rest says Homely

Back to before I was born, or age 1--remember the tone, pace, bkground music, pretty dresses. gloves, no air conditioning.
@cacatr4495
@cacatr4495 4 жыл бұрын
It was a time without air conditioning, when "dress shields" were worn under the arms, under the dress, to catch the sweat, so sweat wouldn't soak through to the dress.

I'll bet all those furs came from the House of Schiaparelli. Elsa Schiaparelli was amongst the biggest names in furrier fashions back in the day.

Good grief! I remember the telecast! And this is REALLY had women dressed and looked then! You dressed up to go downtown, you dressed up to go to the movies, you dressed up to go out dining, you dressed up for church, you dressed up for partyand you always dressed up to fly! If you were a struggling wife on a farm in the MIdwest you dressed up for church. The world was segregated then, but believe me, black ladies--rich or poor-- led the fashion parade! We have photos to prove it!

You are Absolutely right for I am a 66 year old African American male who was born and Raised in Atlanta Fulton County Georgia in my maternal Household as the only Boy of which included my mother, my maternal Grandmother, my Maternal Great Aunt my Mother's sister and my little sister. They were all professional African America women and their Female Power Base included Clark College, Gammon Theological Seminary, Spellman College, Morris Brown College, Atlanta University, and Morehouse College All located in Atanta Georgia and the Networking of all Historical Black Colleges and Institutions in the United States of America and the Pan African Countries; In other words the African American Leadership at that time. I cannot begin to tell you of all of the Women organizations that were the Spinoffs with regard to the Academic Communities on the campuses of this Institutions as well as the Residential and business Communties that surrounded them. Bridge clubs, college Sororities and secret societies, church organizations, teas, fashion shows, weddings, Funerals, baby Showers, wedding Showers, birthday parties, dinner parties etc. Some these women organizations reguired the right shoes, hats and pocketbooks to worn at their Affair. There was a lot of caddiness, treachery, black mailing and witchcraft behind the Scenes of this Elegance that I experienced in my maternal matriarchial household for which it makes people uncomfortable in that I have been able to keep these vision in my adult manhood Years particularly when I read and study the Bible every day and the prayerbook where I can take these female childhood thoughts as a male and to remove the Viel of Isis and see into the Invisible world or the Invisible Church where the Anglelic conflict occurs.

I love the fur coats and stoles (would wear faux-fur versions of them today), but ugh, those fur pieces (boas) that just look like dead animals! Imagine, it was once fashionable to have those awful things draped around your neck and shoulders - complete with paws, tails, and sometimes heads!

Wondering if this was a show called “Fashions on Parade” hosted by Adelaide Hawley who was also known as “Betty Crocker” in commercials at the same time.

More and more I feel truly appreciated by the owner and employees of stores, casinos and everywhere and I love it. If women/girls want to discard their femininity for unisex or male-esque attire, Baby it is their loss and my (and others') gain! I am tickled and overjoyed to inherit the grand and glorious torch of fabulous femininity! My extreme pleasure! I shall carry a purse, wear a skirt and hose, smart yet female shoes and invest ample time in my hair and makeup and will do so with utmost

Agree but it was a different era. Fortunately today more people are aware of the cruelty of the fur industry. I’m vegan so I don’t wear fur or eat animals. A lot of people are finally awake to the cruelty of fur but turn a blind eye to the torture of animals in the food industry.

The fit of the bodice on that Lily Dache gown is terrible! (Lily Dache is not one of my favourite vintage designers, truthfully.) You'd think that fitters for a couture show should have done a better job. Pretty nice set otherwise, though.
