At first I thought it was unintentional because modern lights are LED flash like that when filmed at a slower frame rate but lights back then didn’t do that, so it was a stylistic choice, and it fucking works amazing.

Nah.In my opinion,this is Lynch at midway point between his somewhat commercial phase and latter return to Eraserhead level beauty.2 points bring it down. 1)Lynch is not dealing with some personal skewered view of the world as he did with Philadelphia in EH and Hollywood in MD and IE making somewhat murky 2) While MD and IE are completely based syntactically in a psyche, LH cheats as Lynch had to include that earlier cop scene in the film as somewhat exposition for the form of the film

Ehh he's way more influenced by three particular sources. The Graduate & it's heavy use of music that directly influences how it's shot & edited, Harold & Maude and IT'S heavy use of music that directly influences how it's shot & edited, and obviously the man who made this a THING in the first place for the last 30-40 years of cinema, Martin Scorsese. Wes has openly admitted to the three influencing his use of music in cinema, along with of course vintage European art films playing a large role. I'd say those factored into his style infinitely more than Lynch ever has.
@carnolasluggs54174 жыл бұрын
@@caronteskizoyd6224 They've been cutting slow motion sequences to rock/otherwise tunes since the early 70s. Countless Scorsese films from Mean Streets onward giddily employ the effect. Hell Paul Thomas Anderson does it repeatedly in Boogie Nights, which came out the same year as Lost Highway, and thusly couldn't have been directly influenced.

I must oppose! Speaks to many hetero women BIG TIME. On fantasy level many would want to be the object of desire that is so big that he puts himself in a big risk because of that. Also, it's a very romantic scene; two young people feeling magic attraction to each other but are both trapped under the rule of this rich, mean old man.
