Dr. Smith has computed their position and a course to Earth, but he hasn't told anyone that his course takes them straight through the sun. To make matters worse, a mysterious green woman has mesmerized Dr. Smith and is enticing him in hopes of stealing the ship's atomic fuel.

John was wrong when he decided to take the ship to Alpha Centauri, because unless they were very close, everyone would have to go back into the freezing tubes for the trip, and the last time I checked there were only 6 tubes which means Smith would be SOL. Also, why is Smith so anxious to get back to earth? As soon as he sets foot there he is going to be arrested for treason because the guard he knocked out in the pilot episode is going to testify that he was the saboteur.

Ah, how we effortlessly jumped from galaxy to galaxy in old sci fi. It's akin to an ant scout in the USA reporting to the colony's queen ant, 'Okay we are have just passed the boundary of the colony's territory. We are now heading towards Australia.'

Attention Dr Smith! "I'm innocent!". Lol just like politicians all my life. Blaming others and ignoring the consequence of their own mistakes. I think I loved these re runs because they weren't real like shady politicians we're then and now. Just like this show didn't change, they don't much either. Great channel, your videos rule! I've often said that some of these television and even movie writers would do well to hire a teenager to get their science straight, like knowing the difference between a solar system and a galaxy. Of course that wouldn't help these days, as I don't suppose most teenagers know the difference.

4:19 That's very two-dimensional thinking. Highly unlikely the Sun is directly between them and Earth, and there is an elliptical orbit which would probably take care of any issues with partial blockage with minimal trouble. Reminds me on Independence Day: Resurgence, which put a future forward-defense base on the Moon, as if the Moon is always reached before getting to Earth.

This actually a pretty cool episode until the flying Green Lady came up, but damn, that part was pretty hilarious!!! On the other hand, they found the Sun and Earth, but changing their course a few hundred feet to haul Smith’s butt back in throws them out of the solar system? And if they found the Sun, they are no longer lost and should know their exact position, right? So they are gonna start from scratch for Alpha Centauri, which would take 4-5 years at the speed of light? Why didn’t they just slow down or through it in reverse? If Smith left the ship without a tether, wouldn’t they already be 100s of thousands of miles away by now? Why would they worry about fuel? They just filled up, they would have more fuel to get to Earth than AC…And if Alpha Centauri is the closest star system to Earth, they land on 2 new planets in the next 2 episodes?……….my brain hurts! P.S. the edge of the galaxy is 20,000 light years from earth!!!(taking the shortest route)!! Doubt they have enough fuel for that trip! Need another gas station! (Why, why, why do I do this to myself? I know this is a kiddie show that gave up on scientific accuracy BEFORE day one)!!!

How on earth could the writers continually conflate “solar system” with “galaxy”? And if they were that close to earth and Alpha Control for some kind of radio communication, why not just bring the ship to a dead stop and give everyone, including Alpha Control, time to figure out how to mount a rescue mission?
@dwashbur
@dwashbur 2 жыл бұрын
I frequently wondered the same thing. The "galaxy" thing was especially annoying. Several times in the series it seemed they knew where Earth was, or where Alpha Centauri was, and the knowledge always got lost in the shuffle somehow.

If it takes so much fuel just to change course enough to pick someone up 100 feet away, or whatever, how are they going to avoid crashing into anything that might be right in front of them? How can it take more fuel to turn back around than to fly all through the galaxy? And why save Dr Smith? Why? Why? Don was right. He's nothing but trouble. And, not Gilligan level trouble. At least Gilligan wasn't actively trying to mess everything up. I see your cat is still exhausted.

the writers on this show must certainly have been tech tards. if the ship had a few hours of fuel then would be out of control, then why did john's calculations claim that they had enough fuel of 22 hours to reach the fuel barge. and since the jupiter II was so far off course by the second season, how would any one know that there would be ships anywhere near there to station fuel barges. why would you need fuel barges if a satellite was already in that vicinity, probes dont stop for refueling. Not to mention that they could have stopped the ship and stayed where they were until they could get better information as to where they were. alpha control could tell that they were heading out of the galaxy , but they still didnt know where they were ! the sixties were full of lost people so far from home an no way to get back. was that the "lost generation" people speak of or another time

I am seriously wondering if Irwin Allen had any comprehension of the principals of science, astronomy, and astrophysics when he created Lost In Space. This particular episode is awash with enough scientific inaccuracies and implausibilities to make a 3rd grader laugh. These guys never traveled beyond earth's orbit and they are lost in space? For goodness sake, you can literally see Earth from Mars and beyond. Sorry for the vent.
