This is the Marta Kristen "Judy Robinson "Lost in Space" Original Series interview you have been waiting for! Marta chats with John about her amazing time on "Lost in Space." Marta talks about her first big break in acting, being on Alfred Hitchcock Presents with Bill Mumy and how Irwin Allen saw her in "Greatest Show on Earth" and instantly wanted her for "Lost in Space." She also talks about her special friendship with Jonathan Harris and about what Guy Williams, Mark Goddard and June Lockhart were like off set. Marta is sincere, funny and caring as she also talks about "Beach Blanket Bingo" and meeting one of her idols, Buster Keaton as well as her time on "Leave it to Beaver" and "My Three Sons." This is a great accompaniment to the Bill Mumy and Angela Cartwright interviews on "That's Classic!". Thank you so much Marta!

@@ThatsClassicTV Marta reminds me of hottie Swedish actress Bibi Andersson, from Ingmar Bergman's films. A long time ago, I had a chance run-in with Marta in Santa Monica where I was working a store (still in my teens). it blew my mind - seeing this figure pop out of a fictional universe I grew up on. I told her how I was a fan of the 1st 8 episodes of LIS and was always pissed with Irwin Allen for diminishing the series into kiddie fare. She came to his defense, though; pointing out that he was a technician first and foremost. In spite of the stuff I read over the years about Irwin Allen as a schlockmeister surrounded by yes men, who I imagined was difficult in person, it seems his cast really did like him. Marta spoke very kindly of him. In any case, I'm crazy about HER, and the whole original LIS cast. BTW, hope you talk with Mark Goddard too at some point. My understanding is that he is related to the great rocket pioneer/physicist Robert Goddard. Thanks for your video series.

From an Italian Australian i would like to say... I was an 10 year old boy when in 1967 in Australia i first watched lost in space. What a great cast it was .....It had Zorro and June Lockhart who"s father was an actor in major films (played the judge in Miracle on 34 street) and first saw June as a very young sister to Alvin York in seargent York. Bill Mumy who was already famous,Angela Cartwright from offcourse the Sound of music and TV, to The faboulus Johnathan Harris And the dashing Mark Goddard. But the biggest crush i had was for Judy Robinson...Oh dear what a beautiful Honey....She looks absolutely nice Today and its a testament to a beautiful soul that she looks great in her older days.....Please tell her that some people and shows made a difference to peoples life even though we dont really know them....Judy is a treasure to humanity because of her inner beauty. Marta Kristen is one of the HOTTest women I ever saw on any TV show. Lost In Space is my most favorite series episodes show. always loved Marta! but like she said she didn't have a lot of scripted. I LOVED the Lost In Space series episodes from day one & could NOT wait until the next episode each week. I hated it when they said it would not be on for 2 weeks!!! my next BEST series episode show is Gilligan's Island. I was born on 6-19-1958 & always LOVED Lost In Space & then Gilligan's Island. today is 7-24-22 I still watch & LOVE them both!!

The LOOK of the 5 early episodes is still a huge turn-on for me. Gorgeous use of B&W. Anything that looks that good should keep an audience for both kids and adults. The robot is still my favorite film robot of all time. He has SOME kinship with today's Mars rovers - certainly in his function. Maybe one day some robotics whiz will build a real working robot following B9's design, just to prove it could work. And with AI yet.

Born February 26, 1945 in Oslo, Norway Birth Name Birgit Annalisa Rusanen Height 5' 4" (1.63 m) Mini Bio (2) Marta Kristen was born Birgit Annalisa Rusanen, on February 26, 1945, in Oslo, Norway, to a Finnish mother and a German soldier who was killed towards the end of World War II in Europe. Marta was only two months old when she was left in an orphanage. In 1949, Dr. and Mrs. Harold Soderquist of Detroit, Michigan adopted her, and brought her to America; she was renamed Martha Soderquist. In 1959, the family moved to L.A. and she attended Santa Monica High School for a year; she later graduated from Hollywood Professional School. Producer/director James B. Harris discovered the pretty, petite aspiring actress; he arranged for her to get an agent, and she was quickly booked for TV programs, such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955) and The Loretta Young Show (1953) (aka "The New Loretta Young Show"). In 1963, Marta met a graduate student and, 6 months later, they got married. Her career took off and she made a splash as the mermaid "Lorelei" in Beach Blanket Bingo (1965). She would be best-known and remembered, however, for her signature role of "Judy Robinson" in Lost in Space (1965). However, the show was not as great as expected. Marta later said in an interview, "The show had so much promise. When it started to be silly, we all began to look at each other and say, 'We're in an episode with talking vegetables?' Five years of the Actors Studio, and I'm doing this?" Even worse, the show did not feature her prominently -- in the most popular episode, Lost in Space: The Sky Pirate (1966), in which actor Albert Salmi (like Marta, of Finnish descent) guest-starred, she had only one word of dialogue (she gets to say "good-bye" to the pirate). Offscreen, Marta tried to find her roots, but it was not until 1969, pregnant with her first child and traveling alone through Europe looking for her long-lost relatives, that Marta was able to find her biological mother in Finland; she also met her older sister for the first time, whom she didn't know about. Later that year, Marta returned to the USA, and her daughter Laura was born. Marta concentrated on raising her daughter, and instead of doing television or films, she appeared in over 40 TV commercials, which required less time away from home. Marta and her first husband divorced in 1973. In 1974, she met Kevin Kane, an attorney; they were married until his death in 2016. Marta has remained moderately active in TV and movies, even appearing in the big screen version of Lost in Space (1998). And she discovered more family members in 1997, half-siblings -- a younger brother in Australia and a sister in Finland -- about whom she had known nothing. Having always put her family ahead of her career, Marta revealed, in an interview, that she was "co-parenting my daughter's child, Lena. I used to do a lot of theater and traveled a lot. But those things are out of the picture for the next couple of years". - IMDb Mini Biography By: kdhaisch@aol.com Marta Kristen will be forever known as "Judy Robinson" in the cult 1960s science fiction series, Lost in Space (1965), produced by Irwin Allen. Kristen expected more from her character when she got the role, she also wanted a romance between Judy and series co-star Don West (Mark Goddard) to happen. But when Kristen mentioned the idea to Irwin Allen, her producer was uncomfortable with such a storyline happening in a kid's show. In one very early episode, when the space castaways go for a drive in the "chariot", we see a bit of soft romance happen between Judy and Don, but it only lasts for a second. Despite not getting to do much in the series, when Judy was on screen, her male viewers watched with joy. And Kristen admits to being a fan of her episode, Lost in Space: Attack of the Monster Plants (1965), where an evil double of Judy is created by a giant plant. Judy also got things to do in later color "Lost In Space" episodes, like Lost in Space: A Visit to Hades (1966) and Lost in Space: Visit to a Hostile Planet (1967). Kristen appeared in The Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen (1995) show. She still appears at sci-fi conventions in the USA and she even went as far as Australia to see fans a few years back. - IMDb Mini Biography By: StuOz Family (2) Spouse Kevin Kane (4 May 1974 - May 2016) (his death) (1 child) Oswald Gooden (2 November 1963 - 9 March 1974) (divorced) (1 child) Parents Soderquist, Harold Rusanen, Helmi Trivia (7) She was born out of wedlock in Norway to a Finnish mother and had a German soldier for a father. The German army was occupying Norway at the time. Her father was later killed in combat. She was left, by her mother in an Oslo orphanage at the age of two months. In 1949 she was adopted by an American couple and grew up in the United States. She occasionally does nostalgia shows with Angela Cartwright. In 1964 she auditioned for the role of Liesl Von Trapp in The Sound of Music (1965). Was considered for the lead role in Lolita (1962), which eventually went to Sue Lyon. Her original American name was Martha, but upon embarking on an acting career she changed it to the more European-sounding "Marta". Has a daughter, Lora Alison Treadwell who was born on November 11, 1969 in Los Angeles with her now ex-husband, Terry J. Treadwell, a psychologist. Stuntman Robert 'Buzz' Henry taught her how to ride for the movie Savage Sam (1963).

She’s very nice and looks great. Sad that the the show went from the excellent season 1 to a mostly embarrassing 2 and 3. Imagine if they used John, Maureen, Just and Don more.

I disagree about the comment on the first season that it was excellent. The first 8 to 10 episodes were family adventures then the damage started, Dr.smith became the focus point and star and now the show became a joke.

@@randyacuna3248 yes when Smith became the star it became a joke. I could only imagine the disappointment that Guy Williams, Bob Goodard and June Lockhart must have felt.

I found the image of the Judy Robinson postage stamp online. I think it’s available on EBay. Really enjoyed the interview with Marta. She comes across as a sincere, intelligent, thankful lady. She looks great and really appreciates her fans. Most of my favorite LIS episodes featured her character...”Attack Of The Monster Plants,” “One Of Our Dogs Is Missing,” “A Visit To Hades,” “Space Beauty”...would have liked to hear her discuss those particular episodes but the interview was still informative, interesting and enjoyable. To think after almost 60 years (!), I’m still learning new things about “Lost In Space”!

One thing I often find amusing about tv show familes is that there's ZERO resemblance between them. To the point where there's no way any dna sharing going on there. In the Robinsons' case, one kid is Irish, another looks Italian, and, of course, Judy is Swedish.

To Marta's closing comment, in this era where now every biological definition of gender is copacetic, ageism is still the last bastion of prejudice in this country. It keeps them from work they're still capable of doing; it keeps people from listening to them as much as they would any TikTok no-brainer; and it makes people forget that longevity has standards we hadn't seen before. Anyone look at Donna D'Errico, lately, at age 54??? (That, of course, is a more superficial example). They still get asked by idiots, "are you retired?" It's gotta change. Bill Maher talks about this a lot.

@maryshaffer8557

The show was supposed to star June Lockhart and the extremely handsome Guy Williams, not Jonathan Harris. For some reason, Harris was allowed to dominate the show and it changed drastically from an exciting, serious sci-fi adventure series into a show with crazy scripts. It became the Dr. Smith-robot-Will show!!!! Angela Cartwright, as "Penny", was featured quite a bit, too, as she should have been. The rest of the cast was then relegated to second-class status!!!! One of the dumbest things was that "Will" was allowed to spend most of his time with the Dr. Smith character, who had tried to kill the Robinsons and Don!!!!! He also almost got Will killed many times, offering him up to various aliens so as to be spared himself!!! He would literally hide behind Will, and sometimes behind Penny!!!!! After having almost murdered the others, obviously Dr. Smith would have been locked in his cabin. Most definitely, the brainy Robinson parents would never have let any of their children hang around with him!!!!, Will would have wanted to spend his time learning technical things from his dad and Don. After all, Don was a dashing, extremely skilled pilot!! Dr. Smith had changed suddenly from a cold-blooded spy/would-be murderer into a lazy, middle-aged blabbermouth!!!!!
