Matt received a call this Friday evening about a 1936 Ford Slantback that was for sale on Long Island, NY. The Ford was being sold by the estate of the man who had owned it for the last 30 years. Here is the crazy part, the car needed to be picked up that Saturday (the next day), which is also St Patricks day. Matt hooked up the trailer to the truck and raced up early morning to potentially buy it. The garage the car was kept it was over grown with weeds and the roof above had collapsed long ago. Matt had his hands full to remove the car from its current resting place. The 36 was in the process of being made road worthy before it sat forgotten about in the shop. We are glad to have saved the car, and hope it gets back on the road! Do you think it was a good purchase? Comment below with your thoughts!!

Matt, I've chased tools , equipment and machinery for over 40 years and have been the same filthy old garages, sheds and barns with that foul stench of moisture ,wood, insulation and trash rotting away inpermanating into your clothing and curling your nose hairs. I learned early on to keep a pair of overalls and gloves in my truck just for those such places . My Dad left a 36 Ford at the pier in Norfolk Virginia when he shipped out on the aircraft carrier Hornet in 1940 (CV8) . Of course when he finally returned to that same pier in 1945, it was gone. I look forward to this build .

For Matt primary task is to get this old buddy (motor) on the road running condition which is his passion in restoration of antique cars..........money is secondary.......We can see from his cheerful face that every time he gets a new old junk dead car, he is Happy and will try to get them back on the road running again..........!

Yes, one day in the future, some guy will be touching your dream car, we need to be respectful and stop calling these cars “scores” as they were once someone’s dream. Respect those who came before us, just as we want respect from those coming after us.

Back in 1980, I got desperate for grocery money for my kids and sold my 36 Ford 5 window coupe for $250. It had a mint body except for the fenders. Crazy

Hey David...now you say crazy....but back then it helped you feed the children...I have been a single parent father of two for more then 10 years...times were tough like yours...I had to sell a pre war tractor which I had restored to better than new condition....they smelled I needed money and gave me less than what the spare parts were worth....The same evening I filled up the car, drove with the kids to Walmart, bought food for us and the dog -gave each child 50 bucks-bought myself a pair of jeans and some work boots, drove home, fixed a good meal and watched tv with the --kids.Next-- day I brought the kids to school , payed insurance, taxes and the power bill- drove to McDonald's where I enjoyed a coffee and an apple pie.... money gone....Funny...my friend is called David,too...he called-just 2 hours ago....asking whether we eat lunch together....Well-yes....we will.....David,I wish you all the best...! This is like the car my late Father drove in highschool in the early 50's. 2dr slant back. He said to get into the "trunk", the back of the back seat flipped up. The jack, lug wrench, and a Ford tool kit. Dark green with black fenders....

Great find guys...you HAD to grab that one before the family just scrapped it. We picked up the cheap Harbor Freight winch and a snatchblock for our trailer. You should have a 12 volt pin on your trucks trailer harness to run power to one. Sure makes recovery and loading a lot easier. Looking forward to seeing you getting the 36 fired up. Thanks for posting.

Some people like apples-some like oranges. My family just ain't car guys. The stuff I 've got is their inheritance. I'm 75. They live on the east coast-I'm on the west. I'm selling off a lot of my collection. When I want something -I step up. When I want to sell something - i get lo ballers & vultures. Want to give me 10 cents on the dollar. I can guess what they'd do to my family. Buy my 33 3 window garnish moldings for $10 and laugh how they got over -haha. I'd rather cut them up with a torch! I had a friend who had a junk yard. Got a stainless roof 57 cad. Couldn't get anything for it, so he crushed it! I couldn't believe it when he told me. I understand now. I can't take it with me, but I can make sure you don't rape my family. Would I take a torch and cut them up? YOU BETCHA!

Are the front fenders early repop glass units or do they just have white primer on them and the paint is all wore off? That '36 would make a cool tail-dragger '40s build. Nice work guys.

Great score. My dad always loved the ‘36s. When I was about 8 I asked him why. That’s when he told me “I used to have a ‘36 Fordor, black with green apple pinstripes and green apple wire wheels.” My 8 yr old mind was blown, knowing my dad had a ‘Hot Rod’! “Where is it?!” I asked hoping it maybe belonged to a friend, now, or maybe it was parked at a relatives...He told me he sold it. “Why??” “Well, when your sister was born, I had to pay the doctor bill.” I blurted out “Oh MAN, you should have kept the car and sold my sister!” Hahaha!

Ever think of say... taking the headlight section on the fenders of a 39 ford or merc and welding in some new sheet metal over the headlight openings then setting some big old torpedo headlights on top of the fenders like an early thirties coupe. Maybe fab up and put a heart shaped [style] grill and make up some slots [hand make a grill withhin the heart shape like that one grill you have]. Big grill, hand made but lean back twoard the split windshield a bit. So it'd be like tall profile to look straight at it. Do you have one of those rolling presses for sheet metal [haven't seen you use it]. Those things are great for transmission tunnels and eyeballing certain radius-es.. even hand make trim bits. Deliberately show riveted poop sometimes for the Road Warrior / Steam Punkish Road warrior kind of deal lol [nah just brain farting there] lol Anyway, I thought I saw an English wheel in your shop.... do you have a hammer die [power hammer I suppose] because you can make your own heads for those to enable you to fab up bits to replace some of the Swiss Cheese bits on the fenders of that 39 Packard [hope you do that one [cool car that]... maybe fab up your own chassis and notch them [big notch at wheel / axel areas] so you can slam the car down at shows or for a slow low ride for sh#ts and giggles]. Wish I lived close to lend you a free hand once in a while but I'm old and up in Canada lmao Just love watching what you and your friends are doing. Also dig the stuff Dylan McCool does at his place although I'm more interested in the elder 30's [20's to 50's] cars. Always wanted to build a really stupid T-Bucket to hoof around in or a 41 Ford pickup [love the trim on the hood for the 41]. Anyway... carry on there! Lovely stuff. Your passion for the old flat-heads is admirable. They do have a dependable aspect to them you seldom see in other motors and to me have a compforting sound to them [Dad had a 54 Pontiac with a new rebuilt flatty in it that my Grandfather got my mom and Dad for the car when I was Born. The body was a rotten mess in the end but the motor I'm sure would still turn over if it weren't junked in the 70's lol Fond memories from when I was very young]. Early hours brain blek here. Apologies ahead of time but wanted to tell you how what you're doing is appreciated is all ;-) Well done and keep up the great work :-)
