This is the kindest thing that Sawyer ever did for Jack. Jack so badly needed to hear this, he needed this catharsis, so he could stop blaming himself for his father's death. And Sawyer knew he might never get another chance to tell him. Such a great scene ❤

Right he cares a lot about everyone but he just doesn’t show it
@drivernephi22128 ай бұрын
@@stumpsteph2153 It's difficult to admit to yourself that you do care about the people around you when you hate yourself. When I was a kid and first watched this show I just didn't understand Sawyer's need to be punished, I thought it was otherwordly, completely unrelatable and something that only happens in movies but I grew up to be EXACTLY like this. The older you get, the more you experience life, the better this show becomes. The actual plot is very inconsistent as we all know, but the drama and the characters are the greatest in the history of television.

The setup of this scene is just genius. The characters are rivals up to this point in the series. You have Jack who departed on bad terms with his father. Despite of his anger and hate towards his father its pretty obvious that he cares for the man. You have Sawyer who despite of some of his less knightly history and appearance can't help but to do the right thing. Both of them have the usual assumptions and prejudice about the other person. Jack might be the character that this scene is made for (it is about his father after all) but it is Sawyer (or James rather) who's the most ironic person to relay the story to him. I think you can see it the moment Sawyer is going "He's proud. And he loves him." He's probably just being sympathetic. But the fact that he lost his parents as a kid makes it painfully ironic. He would have wanted to hear those words from his parents. But he didn't. And he can't. So I think that he is doing this for himself as much as he is doing this for Jack. That look on Sawyer's face when Jack is about to leave at 1:00 is just priceless. You can almost see him going, "Damn, I should just keep my mouth shut. But..."

This scene is all about Sawyer and his process of opening his heart not only to others but to himself. His true self is good and kind. In his flashbacks we saw he took the easy way. Revenge is an easy emotion. But there was always a hesitation. He always knew it was wrong and wouldn’t bring him what he needed. Even killing Anthony Cooper didn’t do it for him. Giving to someone, like what he gave to Jack in this scene, gives him what he needs. What he needs is a path before him that leads him to Juliet. With Juliet he becomes more his true self.

There are so many connections, like this one, that the survivors had with one another. This was one of the rare times it was discovered by both characters. I kinda think aside from them being there to help protect the island, they were there to help and heal each other from their past hardships. Of course however they were always focused on leaving the island, that they never realized it. Thats what made this show one of the greatest.

The episode where Sawyer meets Christian (Outlaws) contains a scene where it is already believed that Sawyer is going to tell Jack everything, but he does not. This scene and that of Outlaws is full of commonalities. However, the characters performing the actions are reversed. Here, Sawyer chops wood, receives a gun from Jack, talks about Christian while Jack listens silently. In Outlaws, Jack chops wood, receives a gun from Sawyer, talks about Christian while Sawyer listens silently. Sawyer doesn't say anything the first time because it takes place 21 days after Jack and Sayid tortured Sawyer. He must think that by not saying anything Jack will continue to suffer thinking that Christian died hating him. This is his revenge. Here he talks to him because they may never see each other again and Jack doesn't deserve a life of pain. A life of suffering, Sawyer knows that firsthand.
