Greetings from Washington, USA. Found your second channel today and watched every log from the beginning. Spectacular journey. So much happening in this garden... So many dreams for future areas. Margo is such a gem-- nanny, cobbler, gardener, cat wrangler, shelf mover, stone step molder, ... As dad's leg heals, you can carry him around in the Rover, so he can supervise the plantings. Because I know he is bored just mending. Blessings and prayers for a speedy healing, with no more infections!

Wood chips are fabulous to avoid competition and preserve water. Be sure not to push it up against the tree itself and continually keep adding the chips out to the drip line. It will be an ongoing effort but all the trees and the soil will benefit.

Love that you don’t’ believe in manicured lawns all over. We need wild spots for birds and bugs and little critters. Kitty helping in the orchard, Juliette collecting flowers, lovely. Great job all! Patio, water system, trimming….i really enjoy your garden videos.

I’ve seen more and more people put down cardboard to stop the weeds and then put mulch on top of it. I don’t know if that’s anything you would consider doing. I love this channel! You made the right decision when you decided to make a separate channel for the gardens. I wish everyone would subscribe to it so it will grow. Marc and Amy, would it help to add tree collars on your orchard trees? It might make it easier to trim the grass and prevent damage from the trimmer and wildlife. Fantastic jobs everyone and well wishes for a speedy recovery Marc.

I've worked in large fruit orchards. We always kept the grass around the trees and would disk down the middle of the rows. As the trees grow, the farther away from the trees, the water rows become. Forcing the roots to spread, looking for water stabilizing the trees. Also, it makes it easier to prune, not standing in mud.

Good idea to mulch the trees with woodchips. You could also put cardboard down first , then the woodchips, as this would really help the soil and prevent weeds. It also won't need as much watering.

Love todays video. Margo and her mom are amazing with laying stones.Little one clearly loves having them around. You did great strimming that area. Place cardboard onto areas you dont want growth. Letting grass grew up to the trees will help keep the soil moist thus ensuring ground maintains moisture for longer.

Cayenne pepper if you find the holes can fill them and cover them up you won't have voles anymore Billy Petherick did this it worked for him. Lovely to see Marc here pre-accident I hope he is progressively getting better I hope he's taking it easy the only way to heal effectively without setbacks. I don't suppose you have one of those old fashioned push mowers might be easy to use in the orchard or a strimmer will do :) interesting to see how the pump is installed one never knows if you ever need to do it knowledge is a great power :) I hope you aren't being flooded as a lot of areas are in France. Maybe Marc knows about the area of L'ile de France that used to be under water 2000 yrs ago Gorogoro Kitchen channel went on holiday to an area and given a tour of an area that was water. Pretty interesting tour too maybe someday you all could visit sure they would love to show you around the family who owns the B&B who gives tours. Ticks aren't that much fun either as you probably know so keeping it low is probably a good idea. Juliette is a great little helper as her brother Clement :)

Something you might want to consider when mulching your trees is to re use cardboard from boxes on ground before covering it with wood chips. This will help slow regrowth of grass between wood chips, at least until the card board decomposes... just make sure there is no plastic packing tape on the cardboard skirts before using as weed suppressing/ pre bark application mulching for fruit trees. Since you have 2 rows of fruit trees you could run an experiment and do one row with cardboard plus bark mulch and one row with only bark mulch and see what works best. Some lime mortar between your patio stones might make maintenance (weed control) easier in the long term. When time and money allows that is. Great beginnings... with so much promise for the future. A garden is never done but an ever evolving experiment of the many variables that effect plant growth over time. Stimulating and exciting exploration for years to come.
