3h42m...what is this nonsense? Brilliant question, thank you for asking it. This is episode one of a four-part series covering my first year of full-time camping (2021) and the backstory of how that became possible. There are chapters in the playback bar as usual if you want to pick and choose parts.
Episodes 2, 3, and 4 (for summer, fall, and winter) will be released throughout the year and they’ll cover the behind the scenes of what it takes to be able to be able to do this full-time including:
-filming and editing in the summer episode
-the youtube and finances side of things for fall
-and a variety of frequently asked questions we get in the comments for the final episode
I made most of this last year while injured and finally had a chance to finish it a year later. It was a beast.

@julliansenior6505 yes great point! I guess my comment was more about Jon's expertise with wilderness experience and respect for nature as his primary focus, with the you tube stuff being secondary. Sometimes I watch his films and imagine the ruckus it would cause if inexperienced folks just randomly went to these places without the necessary precautions and expertise. Much respect to Jonathan and his treatment towards Canadian wilderness. 👍✌️

@@EmilyVidd I agree, he always tries to educate a bit whether its reading a paragraph of his book on that trip or describing how the ecosystem works in that area. The videography is superb from the time-lapses to the macro video of plants and bugs.

My son is 18 and has a wild roaming spirit. He has ideas that change on a weekly basis, but they always come back to being in the wild and traveling in a free self sustained mode. He is held back by what society and his family wants him to do. Settle down, make roots and pursue a living. I am going to show him this video and hopefully inspire him to go for it and not look back. Thank you for putting it all together in a beautifully produced video.

Good for you mate. Been living out of a mountaineering pack for 14 yrs now in the PNW. I work 3 months of of the year. I grew up watching the northern lights in Montana. As a kind it always showed me how truly small I was. We lived outdoors. I didn't walk into it with no knowledge, id done it all my life, living simple. Life's simple when you can live on less than $1500 a month comfortably and be able to actually save.

I have been watching Lost Lakes for well over a year now. I do not believe in subscribing to a channel just because it is "free and so easy". It takes me a long time of constant great content before I 'simply click'. There are about 10 KZfaq channels I subscribe too, and Lost Lakes is one of them! 80% of any adventure is only 20% interesting. Jon does an unbelievable job at bringing the most important moments in a 12-day trip (that most of us dreamed about doing) into a 1- or 2-hour video! And Erin... I hope Jon realizes what he has in Erin!

You are one of four channels I watch for camping content on youtube. If it weren't for your channel, and what I learned, I would have never even attempted the trips I've done in the last five years. If you asked me to go winter camping 5 years ago, the answer would have expletives in it. Paddle 20km in day? yeah, not a chance. A 2km portage? F*$% that! Today? All of the above and loving every moment. Your video's are much more than entertainment. They are a recipe on how to experience what you do. I'm not an entertainer. The video's I've made while camping are not fun to watch, but that's ok because I enjoy watching them to relive the trip. I stopped trying to document my trips and focused on having fun. I'll continue to watch your content and keep learning skills to make my trips better. Thank you... Really, Thank you. Your channel changed my life.

As someone who has done many portaging trips, two things, 1) Don't worry about how many lakes you can get to, living in the moment and absorbing all of that beauty feeds the soul, 2) Eat more fish, you're never going to dent the population in lakes not many people are willing to work that hard to explore and fish..What a great channel..Thanks..

Congrats to you and Erin. You are both so talented. The agate is a rare fortiification agate, with its eye- catching banding patterning. Each band traced around with exposed pattern, connects with itself like the walls of a fort. Enjoy.

The Matilda scene with you eating breakfast was a masterpiece. Fun fact, my daughter is now a drama director for the school district she graduated from and they just did Matilda the musical. I help with props and got to make the cake And had to figure out how to make it disappear, sliced spice slice as the cheered Bruce on.
