In space battle, four space ships must fight each other for survival. The laws of physics are obeyed - if a ship is travelling at great speed, it will continue travelling in that direction until it spends enough time thrusting in the opposite direction.
They have the following weapons in their arsenal:
Railgun - Fires an unguided projectile at high speed, devastating at short to medium range.
Missile - Explosive projectile that homes in at the target continuously until it hits, dealing massive damage.
Point Defense Cannon (PDC) - Short range machine gun that primarily is used to shoot down Missiles, however can be used effectively against other ships in close range.
Plasma Cannon - Fires a high damage, slow moving projectile.
Laser - Instantly hits an enemy ship or missile.
Movement is guided in relation to the enemy ship. The ship has four modes: slight left/right or hard left/right. The ship faces the enemy ship offset by a small or large amount in the chosen direction, and accelerates forward.

- New weapons added - plasma and laser.
Colours:
Team 1: Red and Yellow
Team 2: Blue and Cyan

Here's what I can tell the new weapons do: The plasma cannon shoots similar to the railgun, but a lot slower. This makes it a lot easier to dodge, and better used at close range. The laser instantly hits the closest target, usually a missile. It can hit ships, but for low damage, and is better used as a form of point defense anyway.

The triumphant return of space battles! This one feels much, much better balanced. The missiles seem to work great with the addition of a new way to intercept them, and the "crisis mode" makes for a far more vigorous final showdown. I'm not very sold on the plasma cannon, but it does add a bit of mayhem, and the unlikely but heavy hits do occasionally matter. Another thing I'm not sold on is the ship icons on the screen, or a lack thereof. The old icons did cause a lot of questions from viewers regarding "shouldn't have the ship been hit there", but the new lack of icons doesn't play well with the trails. Maybe experiment on that a bit? Try a thin trail that matches the ship's visible size? Maybe just add a round 'cap' to the start of the trail? Something along those lines. Also I still think the ship 'internals' could use some obstacles in the middle for the marbles to bounce off of. Preferably round ones, to break up the back-and-forth bounce patterns. Overall, quite excellent. Really looking forward to any future installments! :D

Thanks for the feedback! The issue with matching trails with the ship size is that when zoomed out the trails will simply disappear, so I scale them according to the zoom level. But I guess I should be able to find a way to match the trail with the icon more cleanly.

@@lostmarbles2d Maybe have a round "marble" at the start of the trail, with the ship drawn on top of it? The ship being dark will work pretty well. Two more ideas for presentation: - Replace the arrow indicating the ship's direction with a solid triangle, or some other shape that's a little more substantial. Maybe even a pair of shapes, like a single triangular V-shape arrow split into front and back halves, rotating around the bracket indicating the ship's location? Just the skinny arrow looks a little off I think. - Also maybe a thin dotted line indicating the ship's target? And/or maybe similar lines for missiles, showing what they're chasing. Probably not necessary but I'm curious how it'd look.

@@lostmarbles2d Another thought: Perhaps to underscore the ships' relative size, have them start closer to each other with the view zoomed in? They don't get the weapons that really matter at long ranges until much later in the match, and tend to drift apart naturally anyway, so having them start closer together won't really hurt anything.

In this version, green changed to cyan, added directions, new plasma cannon, laser, more health. Red and yellow vs blue and cyan, who will win? Crisis mode: this occurs when there is only 1 member of the team left, the teammate’s marbles will be transferred into the remaining member’s ship.

Somebody should do us all a favor and dub over battle chatter for the winning team/crew to retroactively give a narrative to the ships maneuvering, targeting, firing and defending over the course of the fight.

I love the laser acting as PD; realistically, it makes more sense as PD than a weapon, and it’s damage seems to reflect that! (Lasers are really bad at actually damaging stuff other than heating tiny areas up, which is not very effective against a large ship, but would probably set off a missile) On a more critical note; I feel the railgun may need to be buffed, its damage is rather low, and it does not often hit other than at close range, and even then it misses a lot. I feel either its damage or speed needs to be buffed, as from a game standpoint, it should be the best as it is unlocked last, and from a realism standpoint, it should do a lot of damage. (Not more than missiles though, as that would be unbalanced)

I wonder if you could do fleet battles with this, and are you thinking about making different types of ships?

That's what I have planned, yes with different ship types like missile ships, defense frigates, etc. But I started on that many months ago and haven't made much progress, so it'll be published when it's published :P

I think the occasional "friendly fire" from the missiles complicated this. I was watching blue the whole time and was confused when cyan missiles would damage it.

I think the description is kinda wrong; plasma shots are the unguided projectiles while railguns are actually guided

Only the missile is guided. All other weapons (except for laser which is hitscan) calculate the intercept point of the target's current speed and the projectile's speed, so they would always hit if the target simply drifted without engines. Where the difference between these two weapons comes is the very high different in launch speed. For the plasma shots, if it cannot find an intercept trajectory (which is often the case), it simply fires towards the target. Railguns are much faster so they will always be able to find an intercept. PDCs are also slow speed, that is why the trigger itself turns off if it cannot find any targets.

@@lostmarbles2d Thanks for the in-depth description! Came to the comments to see if anyone asked about the targeting logic and this answers a lot of my questions. I was wondering about the steering, too. It seems like the ship will turn/reorient itself outside of the impact of the marbles hitting the steering buttons. Does the ship's facing aim toward the closest enemy ship and the marble inputs act like a temporary bias on the ship's orientation?

@@michaels.3709 The steering triggers set an angle bias relative to the target enemy ship, which doesn't change until another steering trigger is reached. E.g. the "left" trigger will set the bias to 30 degrees left, so the ship will always steer to be facing 30 degrees left of the target ship. The target ship is the closest enemy ship.

I think in a different reply you mentioned that the ships lead the shots for the railgun and plasma, targeting the future position of the enemy ship. Does the bias also affect this targeting, or just the direction the ship is facing?

@@michaels.3709 No, it only affects the current trajectory. Thus if the ship changes desired direction and thus angle, or does a boost, the shot will likely miss unless if it is very close range.
