This is the watch that started my interest in watchmaking... My dad's 1953 Bulova Commodore, which he wore every day. When I inherited it, it was not running and the winding stem was completely jammed. This video shows how I got it running again!

I love the vintage Bolovas. They are not without reason bestived the name poor mans rolex. Ok by far not as fanzi inside, no jualing, but take a look at the cross shape of the ruby jewels. My favired of all of them because they are the most forgoing lol. Make sure you download the manufacturers disassemble and reassuring instruktions so you know what oil and grease to use. It's verry important. Use fixodrop to clean the rubys to allow the oil you are going to place on top to stay centered and dont run of. Good luck looking forward to see your journey.

Great video, Mike! I went through that same front-loading mystery with the GG! First time with a split stem is so stressful! Also enjoyed seeing the tribble / fiber-ball finally! I remember when you told me about it!

Hi Dayton! If this watch only had an integrated case and back then I wouldn't have gone down the rabbit hole trying to take the back off. But no, it had to have gold sides and a stainless steel back...so logic told me that it must separate where the two metals met. Lesson learned! But between you and me, I'll bet it does separate...in the same way a Swatch crystal separates. 😂 I agree that split stems are unnerving. They take so much force! I guess what makes watchmaking an art is learning how much force is right, and knowing when something feels 'wrong'. (I'm so relieved this project is done, it took FOREVER!)
