I met Lou’s daughter in Stockton heath while working at the fancy pub there doing security , didn’t know at first she was Ms Macari but after a few months we were talking and I said my family’s from Stoke and she says her dad used to play for Scotland and lives in Sunny Stoke and the Scotland match was live on the telly there. I’ve stood in the boothern end at the Victoria ground so I’m interested and quick as a flash thought I bet her dads Skip to my Lou … I asked her and she was shocked I’d guessed it like that but I’m a big Stoke 90’s Lou Macari fan so I said I’ve watched her dad at Stoke and he’d come out the dug out to wave to the fans in the boothern end when they sang Skip to my Lou and just want to say his daughters super nice and friendly too Cheers lads 👍

Let this sink in for a second - Lou Macari hasnt been given an MBE, OBE or a knighthood. No honour from the country. A selfless and talented man as you will find. He deserves every bit of praise he gets. Not that you'll hear Lou complaining.

I watched him many times at old Trafford , From the stands you can see who's working. He was like Rooney. Never stopped , chased back to win the ball . Skill and always in the right place. (and he was a director of our Sunday league) . All about heart. At least an M.B.E or O.B.E. needed for what he does. Some man.

You tell me who else would create a brilliant place for the homeless " The Lou Macari Centre " , he got up off his backside and took up the mantle after witnessing at first hand what was happening in Hanley full credit to him . Nello is a legend in this part of the world , and in Lou giving him a job it lifted the players sprits just look at Lou's record for that time it speaks volumes. Thanks gents for a fantastic Podcast the best one yet. The lad off the plane was named Tattoo aka Herve Villechaize fantasy Island .

Absolutely brilliant again. I'd agree with what other's are saying, had no idea about the work Macari had done with the homeless and have not seen Marvellous but will definitely look it up. Think it goes to show the criticisms people make about "the culture of football" and about the money and the greed doesn't tell the whole truth about some of the inspirational figures who made it in the game and gave back to the communities and supporters. The game needs more people like Lou who understand that connection clubs have with their fans.

Stoke City season ticket holder here…Lou is a legend in these parts 👍 When he was Stoke manager he built a great team…full of character and a never say die attitude…great days. My favourite game was the Autoglass Trophy semi final second leg, away at Peterborough Utd. Huge Stoke following and a Paul Ware (RIP) winner…great night and it sent 40,000+ Stokies to Wembley where we beat Stockport County. Truly a great time to be a Stokie…cheers Lou 👍

Lou doesn't mention it but when he took over at Stoke we were in the doldrums. I think we'd just finished 14th in what is now League 1, which was our lowest finish in the football league ever, or in a century or something like that. This was only 15 years after being title contenders in the old 1st division. Macari got the club back on an upward trajectory and into the Championship playoffs. I genuinely think hiring Nello and the culture that ensued contributed to that revitalisation, so when he said to Nello on his first day at work "you're going to be my greatest success" tongue in cheek, well not only was Nello part of the revitalisation of the club in the early-mid 90s, but 20 years later had a BAFTA winning biopic made about him. So you could definitely argue that Nello was indeed Macari's greatest success in management.

I'd been to Stoke games here and there since I was 5 but Italia 90, when I was 8, is when I became properly obsessed with football. From the start of the 90-91 I was a fully invested Stoke City fan and Lou Macari was our king. We had dropped to the third tier and the fans had endured some hard times. Macari's team is my most beloved from over 30 years following the club. I saw us win at Wembley in the Autoglass and get promotion as Division 2 Champions in my first two proper seasons as a fanatic. I didn't see these as minor honours at that age, they are moments I'll treasure forever and I was seeing us win every week, I presumed that is what being a Stoke fan would always be like! When Lou left I realised it wasn't. An absolute hero of mine and of Stoke on Trent. He likes to help people. Be it Nello all them years or the homeless now. God bless you Lou

Now this is how to tell a yarn, as opposed to Mad Dog Allen who made me feel tense in case he used his one of his long pauses to try and create extra drama 😃. Lou is a legend for what he is doing to help those who have fallen through the cracks. We’re all only a divorce, redundancy and couple of missed mortgage payments from being in the same predicament as those Lou and his team are looking after. Especially with what has happened over the past 14 months.
