On "My Car Story" we're in West Suburbs of Chicago on 7-17-20.
We're looking at a 1971 Oldsmobile 442 in Saturn Gold Paint. The car comes with the factory 455 CI V8 engine and produces 350 HP.
The car's Owner is Mike Liddick. Mike’s had this car since 1973. Mike shares he had a 1968 Oldsmobile 442 and wanted to get a newer model. After a restoration, this car looks showroom new.
ENJOY!

The contrast of gold paint against black stripes, black vinyl roof and wheels just a killer look. Love this 442. Congrats to owner on a not-run-of-the-mill muscle car. Outstanding. Thanks Lou, you have a dream job : )

Thanks for sharing my all time favorite car, the classic Olds 442. Lou, I have had the privilege of driving a 67 some years ago. 455 V8, 4 barrel carb, dual exhausts. The 80s versions were not these babies. Oldsmobile since I can remember. My entire driving life has been Oldsmobiles. Jet star 88, Dynamic 88, Delta 88s, Custom Cruiser, 98 Regency, and lastly, my 94 Ciera. Oldsmobile was GMs best line, my favorite line. Thanks again for sharing, Lou. Glorious!!

Such a beautiful example of an American muscle car! Driving about 1,000 miles per year sounds about right, too. I had my 1973 Charger SE for about 15 years and I put about 500 miles a year on it, and it was NO trailer queen as is said. Thanks Lou for another ‘treat’!

Thank you Lou for traveling far and wide to find these "Gold nuggets!" A big shout out to the owners for the precious gift of time. It's a pleasure to see them show off their pride and joy to the viewers and myself. The very first car I bought with my own money was a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It was anemic with the 260 V8 but got me back and forth to work/cruising. It was the stance that set it apart. Oldsmobile has had some nice looking cars over the decades!

Beautiful car, nice restoration. I found a 1970 442 which has the exact options as this one. It had been sitting in a garage for twenty years. Not a spec of rust and I was fortunate to find the build sheet when I pulled the gas tank off for cleaning. They are torque monsters, one of my favorite cars. They are unappreciated, IMO, until you get to drive one. They are not a Chevelle for sure.

Horsepower is 340 , not 350 . For 71 it was dropped 25 horsepower , with a drop in compression from 10.5 to 8.5 . I had a 71 and a 72 . My 71 was 455 auto ac 340 horsepower nordic blue with same stripes but mine were white. I painted the hood louvers black. Bought in 1984 from 2nd owner . My 72 was gold and black w ram air and hurst dual gate. Bought that one for 500 dollars in 1981 , talked him down because the brakes were not working . Had to use emergency brake to drive it home ! Replaced booster and master cyl3 . Put holley 750 and got a brand new offenhouser for 25 dollars ! Only got 5 to about 6 mpg, but i was young and gas was cheap . When i bought the 71 442 in 84 , it got 10 mpg . I was happy . Love those 455 .

He bought that at the right time. During the gas shortage they were like kryptonite to superman. Last year for the 442 as a separate model. 72 it was an option on the Cutlass S or the Supreme. Heavily decontented. Base 350 2 bbl with single exhaust. The 455 was an option. Great car. Worth a whole lot more than he paid for it. A real investment.

Lou, I gave it a like before I saw the video ! That 442 sure didn't disappoint me ,except for the rev - he's scared to get on it. ! Not my car ! Couldn't wait to use some extra gas back then, it was cheap! Very same reason I got my 73 442 - the gas crisis of that era.! That shifter was cool - always heard them called the "his & hers" Hurst shifter ,or dual gate. ! Beautiful car, with a "honey" of a color . Thanks to the owner, he's a lucky guy. I'd love to have another 442. ! Great feature, Lou. !! Thanks!

She's a beaut! Only thing is that both SAE Gross Horsepower (thru '71) and SAE Net were measured on a test stand -- not at rear wheels. The drop in '71 was strictly due to emissions tuning & compression ratio reduction.
@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism
@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism 4 жыл бұрын
I had a feeling he probably wasn't correct when he said that. I was thinking, 350 ponies at the rear wheels was a whole lot of power for a new smog era engine. Since he restored it, hopefully he "fixed" it but it does look like at least, that he had it restored to oem specs, appearance wise anyway, so it's likely the smog spec rebuild.

It's amazing how the 455 in my 1973 Oldsmobile 98 sedan , which was the same exact size of a Cadillac Sedan Deville was strong enough to push the car enough as it would with a car that was the same size as this Cutlass. I would not have anything as potent until I got a 1994 Buick Roadmaster with an LT1 V8: multi port 350 V8.

Probably could have gotten more for the steering column then I paid for the car. Oh us people when we were young.
