I learned that months ago, but I can only do it with 2 hands to do it properly. The method you used that I did got me a really high pitched noise, but no control of the pitch whatsoever. Edit: Well, I've done it one handed.

FINALLY. This is the tutorial that worked for me. The blowing through the small triangle was the main thing for me.
