My guess is the reason this loony had them in crates is not because she wanted to lock them but that she literally claimed she didn’t “believe in training” that it was “cruel” to not let them “be dogs”. Well it’s cruel to not train them. Because I think she had to crate them due to dog fights making things unsafe. Combine with her refusal to actually train them.

She ignores the fighting and the bites from Max, and the risks involved in having a dog with a bite history. She ignores Jesse's needs and all of his concerns. This one was stressful to watch. She didn't save the dogs if that's the environment she was keeping them in. She was being selfish and wanting her needs met but not acting to ensure the dogs' wellbeing. Properly socialized and trained dogs are much happier. This was pure stressful chaos. She created a stressful shelter environment in her house just minus the euthanasia. I really hope she took Victoria's teachings seriously and followed through even after the update.

It's a not often when you actually get a situation of it's me or the dog. But this intervention was desperately needed. Thank you, Victoria for intervening in a family who clearly had no idea what they were doing. I truly believe that without her husband stopping her, she would have easily become a pet hoarder. She has way too much sympathy for the dogs and she's babying them to the extent that she's willing to let go of her marriage for them. I've never seen someone who desperately needs to see a psychologist before on this show. I don't know if her maternal instincts are in overdrive or she's using the dogs as a substitute for something she is unable to have. But she 100% needs an evaluation and consulting.

@janhankins911

I agree completely. They crates were too small for the dogs and they were left in the crates for way too long. Feeding a dog in a proper sized crate is fine. Separating the dogs (by using crates) when they're working on stuffed Kongs (so they won't have any resource guarding issues) is fine. But stuffing the dogs in a too-small crate and leaving them for 20 to 23 hours a day is cruel. The most hardened criminals are relegated to solitary confinement. These dogs aren't hardened criminals, yet they are relegated to solitary confinement. Poor dogs.

I could not STAND being married to a woman like that. The dogs can't stand it either. "He gets to run away, I don't." She's saying this like she hasn't 100% caused this situation that she's trapped her husband into. I feel bad for the guy. He needs to get a partner who actually cares for him. She's probably using the dogs to push Jesse out, because she feels like if he leaves because of the dogs, then she's blameless and it's all his fault. Because the dogs "need" her so of course, she could never leave them! It would be his fault for being selfish, unsympathetic, etc... when in reality this is all a situation of her own making.

I have my dogs in crates but 2 sizes larger than what they need and orthopedic beds with a chew toy and an enrichment toy. But that comes with a two mile walk in the morning, obedience training before breakfast, an hour bathroom break at noon on my lunch, then a mile walk with a mile jog at night an hour before dinner. On my off days, we go on long hikes, swimming, or bike riding. All of their meals are fed with puzzle feeders or slow feeders. Of course they get time to play with each other with games of tug of war or wrestling

the moment you say "I care more about my pets, than I do my romantic partner" - is the moment you need to take a step back and re-evaluate the situation. i'm a dog person myself, i think they deserve the same amount of care and respect as a human - but i would never place a dog's welfare above my partner's, because that's just a divorce waiting to happen.

Dogs can just amplify relationship issues. This is a perfect example of human needs creating dog behavior problems. It's so interesting to watch people face their own feelings when trying to learn how to correct a dog's behaviors. Everyone should have to learn how to train a dog so they can learn better ways to relate to people.

Victoria saying the dogs felt like dogs at a rescue shelter really shows why sympathy doesn't get you anywhere if you don't have the ability to follow through. She "saved" them by putting them in the same situation only removing the possibility of euthanasia. Even then if it's not euthanasia it's the chance of the dogs dying from stress or some other problem caused by the carelessness.

But, with all that is at risk, there really is no excuse. They have volunteers. They always have volunteers, who are capable of doing home checks. With today's technology. No one even needs to leave the facility. Many shelters and rescues are having walk throughs being recorded by the potential owners, or now, doing it through FaceTime. At the very least, doing thorough background checks, more than one interview to get a picture of what the home life will be like. And then getting references from friends and/or family members is the least that can be done. Without even just that. They could be sending these dogs off to owners like this woman, or even worse. The issue our shelters and rescues had in the past. We're people "adopting" dogs to be used as bait for dog fighting. This is a very common issue across the globe in many other shelters as well. Which is why my local shelters, and many others. Go thru such thorough checks before handing any dogs over.

I had rescue dogs for 30 years from all sorts of backgrounds, often cruelty, starvation had been involved. I always had 2 or 3 at a time. They were never kept in crates, and I always walked them at least twice a day, before I went to work, and as soon as I came home from work. They were left loose in the downstairs while I was at work, and had access to the large garden when I was at home. I know from my neighbours that they were quiet while I was at work. My son loved playing with them in the garden, throwing balls, sticks etc. I can honestly say that I never had a problem with any of my dogs, and they brought us so much pleasure, I was so thankful to have them. Friends visiting were not jumped on, they just lay down around us . I do think that the wife was not educated enough about dogs needs before she took in the dogs, and I think it is cruel to keep them in crates! I am sure the rescue kennels she got the dogs from would be horrified!

@@4nn4h I feed with slow feeders, enrichment toys, and hand feeding. it slows them down but it doesn't help the obsession. the obsession over food will get better over time especially if you give the dog a place away from other animals to eat said food alone. right now he/she feels like the food is going to get stolen away or they won't get as much as everyone else gets. structure is about all I have. I've only been training dogs for three years, I've studied cases like this, but never been in contact. if you need further help I'd reach out to a professional trainer with a good reputation.

@@4nn4h I had one dog, a German shepherd, that stands out , because he was very emaciated when I took him from the rescue kennels. They had been unable to get his weight up as he was jumping around so much in his run. He was aged about 11 years and had been kept in a yard all his life. I had 2 other dogs, but had to feed him separately as he was very defensive. I did cure him of that, by feeding him by hand, and every time he took food from me, praising him. The 2 other dogs were in the same room, but not able to get near him, they were trained to lie down. He realised they were no threat to him, and was eventually relaxed enough to be fed in the same room as them. And, of course, was not going to bite the hand that feeds him. He got used to the times he was going to be fed, and did not look for food, as he got to know the routine. I also had a walk-in pantry, so no food was accessible at any other time, except his meal-times! Not sure if it will work in your case, but good luck. 🙂
