Continuing on with our Getting Organised series we're going to take a look at mercenary fleets for 5, 30 and 100 person Orgs. Don't forget, this isn't meant to send you running out to the pledge store - it's more a theory crafting exercise around what end game fleets might be sensible for different sized groups.
In this vid I'm using an awesome tool; Fleetview, from www.starship42.com to render 3D models of the ships. Check it out to build your own dream fleets, and take an up close look at the ship models.

Great theory crafting topic. Love the natural clash that viable small and large orgs could but don't have to have. A widely focused org vs a narrow is probably the most relevant. Pretty amazing how easy it would be to slightly change setups for large effects. Salvage fleets were interesting.

Cheers mate, yeah I’m hoping that in SC any size Org will be viable - but there should be a reward of stronger synergies from being able to field a larger fleet. I think one thing that might upset some people is how weak NPC crew are likely to be (and if they’re strong I’d just expect them to be very expensive instead) so crewing with players is always going to be more viable.

Love the idea of theory crafting for when the game really gets to a point when this is possible. I am so so hyped for the future when all of the features are added in and massive fleets like this and huge wars would be actual things that could happen

I like the idea of the Perseus in a small org. or group since it can run efficiently with 4 crew. As it's supposed weakness is fighters, a very overlooked ship is the Retaliator torpedo platform, which has 5 turrets that could handle fighters. Paring 1-2 of these W/Perseus, especially when blades/npc are ingame. You could protect Perseus and take on Capitols with confidence, as an attack/raiding or escort group. Now think of the Retaliator base model with modularity, that has troop drop pod, cargo and who knows what else for $150. at this time. As the Org. grows, so can your options with modularity. That's why I would add the Caterpillar for cargo, to help fund and supply org. In future modules, medical, troop, salvage, SAR, and selling items have been mentioned for it. It is my belief that ships outfitted with tractor beams will be important in recovery ops. That's why I like the Taurus, it's a mini C2. With pilot controlled S 4 and 5 weapons and 24 S 2 missiles + top turret S 2, bottom turret tractor, it's not bad. Can be used for troop insertion with a combo of Ursa rovers or Cyclone MT (3 person), 2 Ursa will give you gun racks/armor lockers 8 jump seats same as the Spartan , but not all in one place, redundancy is good. Star citizen is a great place for the imaginative minded.

In terms of logistics, I think the hauling Conny is a good start for such a playstyle. It is much easier to assemble a quick fleet with a handful hauling Connys and Cutty Blacks into some kind of armed merchant fleet for combat logistics. With this type of assembly, this fleet could also become a fire support element attached to any core combat fleet. On another note, until the sovereignty system is fully realised in-game, keeping a sizeable standing player fleet won't be much sense. That said, the organisations will probably focus more on personnel development goals such as making money and training combat skills. I would imaging that conflicts between organisations would most likely be sparked under some sort of NPC contract. In that case, players are likely to be the additional elements rather than the backbone of the main combat fleet. Despite all that, I would really like to see some player vs player fleet combats that could escalate into multiple systems and have a good time and laugh.

I would have added an A2 to the ground section of the fleet over one C2. The fleet needs more bombers maybe trade a redeemer for a retailiator

for a 5 person org, I'd have an Eclipse (best mercenary craft), a Vanguard (warden or sentinel, best defense craft), and a Gladius. For the 30 person org, I'd add a Kraken, a Retaliator, another Vanguard and 3 more Gladius to the. You could cruise with a convoy and deploy the light fighters should you run into trouble and the heavy fighters could petrol with you, always ready to intercept an interceptor. The Retaliator is 150$ and can take out 3 Capital ships, while defending against heavy enemy combatants like fighters (since the Retaliator has 5 turrets). For a 100 person org, I'd sell the Eclipse so I could make room for 2 Kraken, with 12 Gladius (repel enemy fighters), 4 Vanguard (long distance/heavy fighter defense), 2 Retaliators (Capital killers), and an Idris-P (upgraded, or M variant, crew of 10 players) or a Polaris for space combat, the Idris would be best to defend against a fighter swarm while the Polaris has overwhelming firepower against large ships with its 28 S10 torpedoes to take out a fleet of Idris/Hammerhead/heavy gun ships/landing craft like M2. For the landing force I'd have 4 M2 Starlifter's that carry 2 Ballista's, 2 Ursa Rover's and 4 Nova's, with 8 Marines in the armory or in the Ursa Rover's. While the landing force isn't landing, they could man an Odyssey, a Starfarer, a Crucible and 5 Vultures (vultures would be carried on Odyssey and Idris). Talk about a landing force, with decent sustainment capabilities. If it were a player cap of 110, I'd include the Polaris and Idris, but as it stands you'd have to choose between the two, or eliminate a Starlifter; it's also possible to scrap the retaliators for 2 Eclipse, and get the Polaris that way, but Retaliators (fully manned) are OP, DPS like a heavy fighter/light gunship, and missiles to sink a Capital. This force could also be divided into multiple divisions, with Retaliators and Vanguards defending a convoy while the main fleet does a landing mission, or the Retaliators could break up and have 2 Vanguard escorts to harass enemy supply lines. Or even into 2 separate landing forces, with the Idris, 1 Retaliator, a Kraken (its 6 Gladius) and half the landing force taking one base while the 4 Vanguards and 1 Retaliator guard the Kraken and landing force (with their compliment of 6 Gladius). It would be a very stout force to try and intercept, even divided.

The data on the redeemer is inaccurate ~top gun reference. Pilot > 2x s4 Manned Turret x2 > 4x s5 each Remote Turret x2 > 4x s3 each The redeemer is too OP in my opinion. Hammerhead has 24 weapon hardpoints and requires 2 s3 powerplants and coolers to make them functional. Redeemer has 18 weapon hardpoints and somehow only requires 1 s3 powerplant and cooler to make it functional. Your fleet with the Polaris would be quickly overwhelmed by a fighter wing attack. The polaris has some anti fighter ability but it is half what a hammerhead has. So you need to be attacking a target with no fighter cover. You only have a single fighter cover for your perseus and polaris. Perseus has very limited fighter cover weaponry. 2 turrets with 2x s3 each. If you go up against a target with 4 heavy fighters and a retaliator or 2, you will be in for some trouble. I would ditch a redeemer and add 2 more fighters.

The perseus is way overpriced , but im starting to realise thats the armour..all heavy armoured large ships seem to have 500 dollar's + and this thing has Thiiiick armour , bespoke guns and bespoke ammo , i got mine as an early pledged carrack upgrade so it worked out a fair bit cheaper :) people say that its weakness is going to be fighters , but i honestly think theyre forgetting about that armour...how many fighters have guns that can pierce corvette armour? Not a tool for every job , but a solid escort and harrasser for all ship sizes :) and as the inforunners said , a medical bay is not really suited for a pocket destroyer. I do love her and cant wait to have her operational in the verse
@LoudGuns
@LoudGuns 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I reckon it’s pretty severely underrated, maybe a swarm of fighters might prove a problem - but if you’re up against a swarm of fighters that means they probably have a carrier and you’re quite outmatched as a small group. I also reckon med bays should be fairly rare, but probably a simple patch up can be handled without one as long as you bring the right hand tools etc.

I think you got this one wrong straight off the bat, Polaris is definitely the way to go for a 5 man crew, has all the needed facilities and carries a fighter. The Perseus is a great ship but plays a niche role, its also something I'd never recommend to buy as its far too overpriced. Perseus is definitely more suited in bigger organisations, and as part of a fleet.
@LoudGuns
@LoudGuns 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting - I just felt that with a 14 person crew requirement it was effectively too much ship for 5 people. If you’ve got one of you in the fighter that leaves 4 of you to run it at which point I personally think you’re over dependent on NPC’s. I did wonder if some other gunship type vessels might be better, maybe a couple of redeemers or a Drake Corsair. Totally agree on the price of the Polaris being nuts, that’s why I said it’s a buy in game only. None of these fleets are recommendations of what to do with real cash.
