@Jk Yeah, there are new oligarchs now who are all members of Putin's political inner circle and live at the expense of regular Russians, who make an average of $150 dollars/month in one of the world's most resource-rich countries. Certainly, if you are a foreigner with dollars or euros who comes to Russia for a week or two, you'll have a great time due to the exchange rate, but that's about it. The facilities built for the 2014 Olympics have largely fallen apart. The same is true of World Cup facilities - many of them started crumbling literally days after all the foreign tourists left - it was all designed to impress the foreign crowd for a couple weeks - a WC-class stadium with 40,000+ seats was built in Saransk, a tiny city where attendance at football matches averages a few thousand people, for example. All completely for show. Life for regular Russians improved not at all during or after the Cup. In fact, Putinists took the opportunity of the world cup to pass a law saying that Russians were not allowed to peacefully protest during the time of the WC and then immediately raised the retirement age to 65 in a country where the average male expectancy is 60. Any attempts by people to protest the destuctions of their pensions was then crushed by police thugs. But I do understand that the average foreigner would not necessarily know about this.

My family's Slavic, and immigrated to the USA towards the end of the Russian Empire because they were running from being forced into Soviet collective farming (they had owned farmland before the program started and it was a mess as they could have been labelled as kulaks and killed). Can confirm, Russian/Soviet life was fucking bleak, and when Gorbachev started the half-assed, way too rapid dissolution (collapse) of the Soviet Union in the early 90s, things got seriously desperate as the social services and everything else that made up society and law fell apart with the political fold. This immediately post-Soviet era is almost certainly what Louis is talking about here, and it checks out. I totally believe it, based on my family's own experiences then and now. I just visited some family last year in Czech, which isn't anywhere near as bleak, but there is definitely a "Spectre" that hangs over pretty much every Eastern European/Slavic Central European country caused by endless political instability and shenanigans caused by literal centuries of shitty leadership and bad geopolitics. It's always interesting seeing people react to this bit, especially those who don't have much context for the kind of scene he's talking about here. Always appreciate watching you two, cпасибо (thank you!)

And poisons his critics in and out of the country with radioactive poisoning like he did that father/ daughter in England cause the guy was gonna tell the truth about him or like he did Alexander Litvenko who he poisoned the same way for exposing his " mafia state" The guy sued a hideous death in England I think. His far reaching hands got to his victims yo keep them quiet while sending everyone s message he didn't care who died or what country would be exposed to silence the truth. First of all, thanx for your videos, guys, I really feel like you bring a lot of different people together. Second of all, I'm from Russia, from the city of Voronezh 600 km south of Moscow. As I imagine, Louis had gone to Russia in the 90s, and that really was a bad time for Russia, but it had already nothing to do with the Soviet Union - on the opposite, it was the era after the collapse of the USSR, a really bad time, when neither the government nor the economy had transitioned to a new functioning model, when the old functioning system had been ruined, but there wasn't another working one to replace it. I'm 33 now, back then I was a kid, and I clearly remember what a hard decade it was for my parents and the entire country - the national currency collapsed, people weren't paid for their jobs, gangs and bandits were everywhere, the corruption level was out of the park. And just so you know - I'm not in any way blaming you or other regular Americans - this whole situation was in part caused by the USA's efforts to bring the USSR down both from the outside and from the inside. Forgive me for bringing politics into this, I just wanted to let you know that what Louis described here is one of the worst moments in our history which, thank god, has long passed, and it shouldn't be perceived as what really represents my country now. It's kind of like taking a trip to America during the Great Depression - that just wouldn't be an accurate view of the country and its people in general. We all may think differently in terms of global politics and the general mentality but, as you can see, that doesn't mean we're actually that different - no matter what our governments think or do, there are lots of things we can relate to, including comedy. Once again, thank you for your work and, trust me, if you go to Russia now, you'll see a big interesting country with hospitable people and no racial prejudices whatsoever - we've never had any.

This probably comes off like propaganda, but it's not. I started watching your videos after Bert talked about you guys and was on his podcast. I am Norwegian, and I've never been to Russia, but it is probably the most interesting, diverse, complex and large country you can imagine. I have just been watching youtube videos and reading, but saying there is nothing to see in Russia is insane. Check out "bald and bankrupt" channel on KZfaq. A British guy travelling Russia/ The old Soviet Union etc. There is Moscow and St. Petersburg, which is the old and new capital which is "cosmopolitan" Russia, there is Siberia which is kindof cold "southern/country Russia", there is Chechnya which is a Muslim dictator state ruled by one Russian backed family (they had many wars, the last one in the late 90's) Right north of Turkey/Iran. Russia is litterally 1/8 of the worlds land surface, and stretches from Norway to China. So there is more to see, and more diverse and complicated than anywhere.

I visited the then USSR twice in the 1980,s Moscow included its an extraordinary place, so much history , remember that they lost 30million during the second world war, they are tough tough people because they have had to be. I am offended that you would say why would you go to Russia, you haven't even been there, you are just going with a stereotype, let me tell you if we went with stereotypes know one would go to the USA and unfortunately you are living up to this with this video, ie looking utterly stupid its embarrassing. Most of the rest of the world (unlike usa) is seeped in thousands of years of history and culture. The Hermitage in Leningrad (as was) contains some of the worlds greatest art, the Tsars palaces are incredible not to mentions Moscow's Flight museum where you can actually see Yuri Gagarin's , the first man in spaces return capsule, in St Petersburg you can see one of the only frozen mammoths. The Tran Siberian railway is a legendary trip. Russian Artists and musicians wrote some of the worlds best music, Writers like Pushkin and Chekov wrote material still read and acted out today. you have the Kirov and Bolshoi ballet companies. Russia is a vast nation that covers many traditions and cultures Incidentally I am from Scotland and we find it horrifying how little Americans travel or know about the world, the USA is just one not so big country that, contrary to what you think, know one pays much attention to if they can help it.
