I can sense the bias against US sports at the start bruh haha 😂 Seriously, happy for Louis and good on him. Wish him all the best. However it's Not gonna be easy for him. In fact it's a massive challenge for him even if he has played a bit of gridiron. There are so many differences in skillset between rugby union/league and gridiron that players outside the NFL and college football sphere don't realise until they get there. Unless you decide to be a full-time punter/kicker, it's a big culture shock. It's not just being good under the highball but other things. Jarryd Hayne is a good example of how someone good in the NRL struggled to make an impact on the NFL, only just making the special teams units as a punt/kick returner before returning to the NRL.

fella, I know it's a shock. But look at this way: A 22-year-old has been given a once-in-a-lifetime chance to do, and experience, something completely different. And get paid for it. Why wouldn't he do it? If it doesn't work he can always go back. It's not like loads of players can go to NFL. Players going to NRL is a completely different thing (and is worrying).

As a Canadian rugby fan who follows both the global rugby scene and North American pro sports (NHL and NFL especially) it is very frustrating to follow the top club comps around the world. The international game is world class and in a great place currently, but the European club leagues as well as super rugby have so far to go to compete with North American sports, the big euro football leagues or even T20 cricket. The NHL, the smallest major league in NA, dwarfs the top rugby leagues combined in terms of salary, attendance, and tv rights despite being a far less globally popular sport. I don’t know what the answer is but domestic rugby world wide need to level up as a pro sports product

@@adrianhowell968 the forward pass and the lack of a rule requiring the tackler to wrap both play a big part in influencing the contact situation in gridiron. I think you're wrong in your analysis. Firstly, the NFL is huge, way bigger than rugby. The only time rugby is bigger is during the world cup, which is only every four years. Player and ref bashing is even worse there so it wouldn't make any sense to move there if he wanted to run away from criticism. Secondly, if you know LRZ's personality, you know that he wants to be known worldwide, like a celebrity. He even stated that he wants to live in Monaco for the rest of his life. Considering the fact that his family is far from being poor, he's in a position where he has the financial stability to follow his dreams. Oh, and Stuart Hogg stated clearly that his body just wasn't able to keep up anymore and he didn't want to play lower level rugby

He's fast, but a lightweight on the wing or at full back. He can get more bang for his buck on a field that is just 80 metres long, as well as the stop start nature of the game can save his legs so he can run better. He's got great initial speed which he can sustain over a distance. meanwhile rugby union can be rough, not many stoppages so a player of zammit's talent must jog, run, or sprint when required. And the NFL pays much better at a time when Welsh and English rugby has hit a low point, as a game and with funding.

You might be reading too much into this situation. I don't think this LRZ deal is comparable to the Hogg or Farrell situation. LRZ hasn't mentioned that he's leaving because of abuse or because of the state of Welsh rugby. I honestly just think LRZ is pouncing on an amazing opportunity, as he says so himself. The NFL is a whole different league than rugby in terms of elite level performance and standards. There's very few rugby players that could ever make it in the NFL, but LRZ is genuinely unique. He runs the 100m in 10.4 seconds. A pathway has presented itself to him and he's taking it. He's already been to World Cups and on Lions tours but now he's got an opportunity for a bigger, and potentially more lucrative challenge. I say fair play to him, and good luck.
