@@privatejoker5062 Because the bag was in such bad shape practically all of it had to be replaced, and he only charged her for a portion of the work. He did the entire straps on the arm for free. It takes time to do a different project every day. People are so impatient and think he works in a factory. It's a 1 man shop with 1 apprentice. It's very time consuming to do things correctly.

I feel for that poor lady. I had a similar experience when I took a coat to be cleaned a few years back. My grandma that passed away a few years ago purchased that coat for me, so it was special and had sentimental value. The shoddy dry cleaners ended up breaking the belt on it and didn't care. I left a negative review and the owner called me up and tried to make it seem like I was exaggerating, it was ridiculous. I cried, too. It's disheartening to have someone treat your item with such disrespect. They don't care because it's not their property, they just see dollar signs. They have no integrity or honor in their work. I wish we knew the name of the "stupid jerk" that ruined her bag. Don't sell yourself short, Steve, you did a great job!

Steve, my old boss always said, "There's always competition." By "competition", he meant that there will always be someone who offers to do lower quality work for less money. This looks like a prime example! Part of the problem is customers who don't know how bad this is...some people might genuinely think the guy did a good job. So thanks for setting the record straight!

The problem is that all too often consumers will choose the cheapest service available without doing their homework and seeing if they're any good at it. If you can find good service at a decent price, then great, but if you can't, then it's always better to take the best quality service you can afford, even if cheaper options are available.

@@hotwax9376 Well, an example is a photographer I knew. He was discouraged because nobody ever bought the creative/ artistic photos, so he stopped trying. You are SO correct in pointing out the lack of reinforcements at the known weak points. So many bags break at the same areas even after light use. For the large cost of an LV bag & accessories, LV SHOULD stop a little short term greed & reinforce known weak areas that always break in their products. NO way any bag lasts 20 Yrs usage per LV policy. Few can buy a new LV bag every season. Few are as skilled as you in LV repairs.

When you consider that Louis Vuitton technicians work with a set of standards, and new materials, it takes a magician to restore a product so that it looks as if it's been well taken care of instead of being fully restored to "new" appearance. Steve, the bag looks amazing! Don’t sweat the little stuff like the stitch length. In this case as you made all new straps the fact that it’s a little off has absolutely no affect on the bag or it’s structure! You wanna see a mess you should see the disaster that is the back of my first quilt, LOL! Nothing lines up at all some of the lines are 3/4 of a inch off! Not worrying about it as hay it’s the underside I’m the only one who will see it!
