I am Haitian-American, and sometimes, Haitian people tend to use nicknames for family and friends in a similar manner, such as Ti Lulu or Ti Manno or something like that. So cool that Louisiana Cajun-Creole people do this too.

Good video. I recognize many names... BTW, my surname is Le Blanc and my father was born in what was once known as Acadie (N.S. - Nouvelle Ecosse).

My granddaughter, born in Arizona, was named for my Cajun grandmother, her name was Seline, however my granddaughter spells her as Selena.

Selena is probably due to the Mexican influences there in Arizona, and also due to the lovely young Mexican American entertainer Selena Gomez, dear.Anyway, hope you had a Joyeux Noel,Mon ami.Merci beaucoup, mon Cher ami,and God bless you.

In my family we definitely adhere to these traditions. Mon petit nom was Lele (pronounced Lee Lee). Lee is my my middle name. And was my grandmother's middle name and was her father's first name and was his mother's middle name. And so forth and so on. Did anyone else call little girls the last syllable of their name twice? Like if your name was Mandy, your nickname was Didi (pronounced dee dee). Just curious of where this custom in my family might have originated

2:15 -but most people use it as a last name !D Landry is so numerous that my dad's sister married a Landry tho no blood relation. My first crush at age 8 was a Landry with no blood relation. Why can't I have my mother's maiden name! lol I love Cajun nicknames, except coonasse.

They had a picture of the young teenage saint from Italy,Saint Dominic Savio, but the lady narrator never mentioned the name"Dominic".From St.Dominic,s picture,I was really expecting to hear his name mentionec, but it never was. They mentioned the names of the other saints pictured, saints Francis, and Therese,or at least the French versions of their names. But very unfortunately,Dominic was never mentioned.I was really, really disappointed, since they showed his pictiure. So naturally,I was expecting St.Dominic,s name to be mentioned.Anyway, otherwise,an interesting video on the naming of French Creole babies after saints.
