I love a lot of drum 'n' bass, so I'm a real sucker for these kinds of super-snappy aux snares. And the good thing is none of them are very expensive! My choice is the Sonor 10x2" Jungle Snare which I love. But I also really dig the Tama Mini-Tymp snares, LP Micro snares and also the Traps 12" A400 plastic snare - trying to track one of these down to use as a practice drum but so far no luck!

Great demo. Why so much Moon Jell? Let it ring out and take the top end off at the desk ( much better full body)…. a good sound engineer can handle it with no problems.👍

Kinda late but have you ever tried putting the moongels on the underside of the head? Just a suggestion!

The kind I use (just window clings from the dollar store lol) actually stick on pretty dang well, not sure if moongel would fare as well but it's an idea

I am now thinking to add this snare to a hi hat and use a cajon as kick drum and a octopad for rest all to make a cheap hybrid.. you think that will be decent setup?

100% - you can always dampen this drum a little so it blends with the kit more.

Great video, I liked the different tuning demos. One question though, it doesn't seem like it has a lot of attack in the video. What is the volume and attack like?

What are your thoughts when tuning it even higher? Does it develop this horrible never ending ring that some drums have?

hillie47 I’ve honestly not tried cranking it to the point of choking - I imagine it’ll ring out somewhat with the stock head or a thin single ply, but a heavier, thicker head will likely give it a sharp transient with little ring.

@@louistotalcontrol Heads are the first thing I replace on every new drum. Especially with affordable drums, as they're often bottom of the barrel cheap useless things. Some snare drums seem to have this unstoppable desire to keep on ringing, which I usually don't like. This is an interesting drum, I looked at it a while ago. Tama usually makes great stuff and this is quite affordable. I like their Star series hardware. Super heavy stuff, but it's super stable. The cymbal boom of that series is great. I've got a 24" ride and a 19" china on it. You need to pay attention to how it sits over the legs, but once set up it doesn't wobble or anything. I'm thinking of adding a small crash as well, the stand seems just fine under heavy load.
