Charles can never be a faithful husband and being younger than Agatha that is in her fifties would make that marriage end quickly with sadness, plus Charles is an emotionally unavailable kind of man, and James is emotionally distant and controlling. Agatha needs a strong study relationship with someone in her own age group that loves and accepts her the way she is, but again Agatha is the kind of woman that always falls in love with love not really the man, she can never be a faithful lover herself. Reading almost all Agatha's stories shows that Agatha can't have it all, playing the part of an independent woman that does not need anybody and yet wants to be feminine at the same time by always looking for a man to be with her, and afraid of growing old alone makes her vulnerable. Agatha still doesn't know how to keep the man interested for long because her bossy nature is a turnoff to most men and both James and Charles see her as a sexy and successful strong woman which sometimes counts against her looking from the way they take her for granted. In reality, most men are always attracted and want vulnerable women who always look up to them for saving. It only takes a self-assured man without emotional baggage to see a woman and love her for the way she is strong or vulnerable. This is my perspective based on novels but who knows movies' storyline sometimes looks different from the addition and subtraction to the real story.
