So agree. This is a most fabulous hymn and the original words are perfect; they do not need to be 'modernised'.

I absolutely agree with all those who say why change Charles Wesley’s words just for the sake of “modernising” it’s the same sacrilege as changing Shakespeare. But what a great tune is Blaenwern, I love the way it rises on the last four lines of each verse,.

For those who prefer to sing the authorised version - have at it: Love divine, all loves excelling, Joy of heaven to earth come down, Fix in us Thy humble dwelling, All Thy faithful mercies crown. Jesus, Thou art all compassion, Pure, unbounded love Thou art; Visit us with Thy salvation, Enter every trembling heart. Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit, Into every troubled breast! Let us all in Thee inherit; Let us find Thy promised rest. Take away our love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be; End of faith, as its Beginning, Set our hearts at liberty. Come, almighty to deliver, Let us all Thy grace receive; Suddenly return, and never, Never more Thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, Serve Thee as Thy hosts above, Pray, and praise Thee, without ceasing, Glory in Thy perfect love. Finish then Thy new creation, Pure and spotless let us be; Let us see Thy great salvation, Perfectly restored in Thee: Changed from glory into glory, Till in heaven we take our place, Till we cast our crowns before Thee, Lost in wonder, love, and praise!

Man, I wish I was British and could attend this. This sounds incredible! I don’t think I’ve seen so many people singing and worshiping together in one place. Maybe at a Billy Graham crusade but I don’t think that even had such music. Now days if there’s a time of singing the old hymns, it would be a crowd aged 70+. Went to a gospel concert with my mom a few years ago and I felt like the only millennial in the room.

You're confusing this with the Festival of Welsh Male Choirs, which is indeed a massed choirs concert at the Royal Albert Hall. This is not that. The singing by the entire Hall of Blaenwern from that occasion, ( recorded and viewable here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5yFjalpxKi1fJs.html ) is better, because (i) they haven't messed about with the original Wesley text, as they've done here; and (ii) because the Royal Albert Hall organ is more than capable of leading this magnificent hymn without the excessively twiddly distraction coming from this orchestral arrangement. All the singers performing here deserve a medal for being able to follow it. My two-penneth worth, but each to their own I suppose.

I object to the alteration of the traditional words, and also the way in which the sound engineers have managed to reduce the organ to nothing. Not my favourite by a long way.
@malaykrghoshalkumarofsunde467111 ай бұрын
AMDG The Hymn is lovely indeed, yet the changing of certain words has "marred" the sereneness of the Hymn. The words "whole" and "heart" do NOT rhyme at all: words (changed into the modern language) would be suitable if - but only if - the ending of each and every line rhymed properly. It is also observed that at one place of the Hymn the traditional, informal and intime pronoun "Thy" is retained, whereas in most other parts the formal pronoun/s "you" and "Your" are applied here. Moreover, it is not merely regrettable, but "gravely tragic" that THE HOLY NAME "ALMIGHTY" (Derived From "EL-SHADDAI" or "GOD ALMIGHTY") is shown with a small "a". It Is GOD'S HOLY NAME wherefore MUST commence with a capital letter "A"!!!!!!! It is also regrettable that the wonderful second verse "Breathe oh breathe..." is omitted here. Most solemnly Sd. ==Malay KR=10=IX=2023==
