You are so right, he is a super hero! His voice is his super weapon. His 68 comeback special all dressed in black leather was pure Elvis! He only changed into the white suit at the end to honor MLK and Kennedy. The man had looks, talent and class!

Elvis is one of the best singers that has ever lived. He was also a fabulous entertainer. There is a reason he is called "The King". He had a great voice & could sing anything whether it was ballads, gospel or rock. "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" is one of my favorite songs from Elvis that was in the 1961 movie "Blue Hawaii". Tim Foust did a very beautiful version of this song.

Elvis didn't write not a one of his songs you can't imagine how many people wanted him to do their songs but Elvis didn't do any songs that he didn't feel that was in his heart that's what made him the Best entertainer ever to live. And Elvis had thousands of signature moves every move he made was a signature move just saying! I'm so envious of you I wish it was me just now jumping down that Elvis rabbit hole I would love to do it all over again. Everything for me has been a rerun I've been loving this phenomenal man since 1972. I just love your reactions to him makes me happy thank you for that. since I was a little girl

Saw him twice in person and he was beautiful. He should be remembered not only for his talent but he was generous beyond belief because he was so poor in his early life. He financially helped build St. Jude s hospital and have away cars and houses. You have to see that back when he started singers were one group and writers were another. Sinatra and most RCA artist were given song writers to select from. Many writers sought out Elvis because every song went gold. Elvis was however executive producer and arranged for most of his music. Be Blessed. I subed

He sang songs others wrote for the most part. There were times he would tell a song writer what he wanted to say. And they would write it together. One of those songs was, If I can dream. That song was very important to him
@carolhayar3037
@carolhayar3037 Жыл бұрын
actually, Elvis did not tell the composer of If I Can Dream what he wanted; Elvis & producer/director Steve Binder had a long sit-down discussion, & Binder asked songwriter Walter Earl Brown to compose a song to reflect what had taken place (based on MLK's speech) -- King's assassination, Robert Kennedy's assassination, Vietnam; Parker wanted a Christmas song but after Elvis looked at the song sheet he told Parker "i want to give it a shot.”

speaking of hair, how many people know that Parker didn't like the fact that his hair got messed up when he did his stand-up special; he had no clue that his falling down hair was part of what made Elvis' performance natural; you can't bounce around like that & not have messed up hair -- unless it has tons of hairspray on it -- & he should have messed up hair -- it helped make him all the more natural & gorgeous

To add to it others have said, it was quite rare back then for these kinds of artists to write their own material but they usually kind of had a stable of songwriters and that they knew and worked with and also they chose their material very carefully and also what a lot of people don't know about Elvis is that he was a brilliant arranger and he did his own arrangements. You should check out Bridge Over Troubled Water from his 1970 Vegas show, it is incredible. And there is also behind the scenes footage of him with his band and backing vocalist working out his arrangement of it piece by piece, and it really is fascinating.

@depper
@depper Жыл бұрын
Elvis Presley was a VOCALIST. He didnt write songs. However, unlike almost ALL vocalists, he also ARRANGED AND PRODUCED. And this was a VERY IMPORTANT part of the puzzle since Elvis is credited with MERGING the blues with gospel with country and rockabilly to change the face of music FOREVER. GONE were the days where musicians just stood at the mic and sang or played their instrument without MOVING YOUR FEET. It ALL changed with Elvis. That MERGING of music genres was a merging of Black and White CULTURES as well. He and his young fans were revolting against the STATUS QUO -- this was at first an AGE BATTLE, the YOUTH vs OLD FOLKS. Quickly it turned into a civil rights battle, which was already brewing in the streets. Elvis was a STRONG SUPPORTER OF CIVIL RIGHTS from a child. And he never forgot those roots throughout his career. Evolution? I think he was a stronger impact to music than that. Elvis REVOLUTIONIZED the business and the United States. A HUGE injection to black musicians, Elvis injected money and opportunities to many of the black musicians at the time. Otis Blackwell wrote hundreds of amazing songs but he couldn't sell them. By Elvis performing some of them, Elvis ensured Otis got paid royalties, and it allowed Otis to TOUR AGAIN. Songwriters would come to Elvis and he would select the songs he liked the best and he would not only just sing them with his incredible 3 to 4 octave baritone, but arrange them and produce them. He came from the GOSPEL WORLD, the Church, but he loved the Blues and Country Music and would play with BB King for hundreds of hours and together they played all night long sometimes. So Elvis had Gospel, Country and the BLUES DOWN PAT. Elvis' never went to MUSIC SCHOOL. His MUSIC SCHOOL WAS THE STREET (Shakerag and Beale Streets). And CHURCH. Elvis' music integrity and knowledge and upbringing in poverty in the ghetto was CRITICAL to his successes. You just LOOK AT THE GUY, and you KNOW he meant it. You know he understood what he was singing about. He sung about everyday pleasures and everyday problems that anyone could relate to. So his music IS ALWAYS RELEVANT even today. Girl problems? Yup we still got those. Poverty? Yup we still got that. Racial problems. Yep we still got that too. His ability to VIBE to his own music that his band was playing and his uncanny ability CONNECT with an audience will continue to be studied by musicians and music lovers for generations and millenniums. He was bigger than all of us and his legacy will outlive us all. And what made him likable was that HE WAS HUMBLE.
@maichupp
@maichupp Жыл бұрын
Impressive comment!! You wrote the truth right from the beginning that even Elvis never claimed himself to be one. God, he said he was just an entertainer. His humbleness was beyond everything I had expected from a man, a singer whose impact was bigger than life.

He only wrote one song, way back at the beginning of his career in 1954 when he was 19. Singing & songwriting were two separate professions back then, & had been for several decades, so he had songwriters, & he also did Covers, changing them into his own style, sometimes hardly recognisable as the original. This was in 1968, after he had been doing movies for 8 years & two years in the army in Germany before that. He hated most of the movies he made, so in 1968 when his contract was finally up, he didn’t renew it, but went back into live concerts, which he loved doing. So this was his 68 Comeback Special after not doing a live performance for 10 years. There are some great songs in the 68 Comeback Special, & some great dancing & singing in the 1970 Las Vegas Live Concerts ….. Polk Salad Annie & Suspicious Minds (a big Hit for him) has some great dancing as well as singing, & also You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling in the same 1970 Las Vegas Live Concert, is a Dramatic performance. Subbed for your Elvis Reactions.

People don't realise but he picked his own musicians whether black or white as long as they where good he hired them. He was also underated as a producer, he picked his own songs and sang it his way.. he didn't produce his movie songs as much as he didn't really like them. He did write about 9 songs but because of his manager he couldn't really have time to write his own songs because of his busy schedule but put that aside he was extremely talented and picked out some great songs that fitted him

Nice reaction! But to really hear this song without the weird background instrumentation I hope you'll also react to either the studio version or the clip from the movie "Blue Hawaii". Elvis co-wrote two songs: "You'll Be Gone" and "That's Someone You'll Never Forget" (most suspected this was about his mother who died when he was 23 years old and in the Army at the time). His talent was in interpreting songs. He hand-picked his musicians, arranged songs, had the final word on their production, and brought lyrics alive through his passionate and emotional presentation.

Elvis did not write/compose -- he covered songs such as You Lost That Lovin' Feeling, Unchained Melody & I Got A Woman; If I Can Dream was composed specifically for him to do for his '68 Comeback special.

Lots of singers don't write their own music. I believe Whitney Huston and Celine Dion had music written for them, and they're in the Trinity.

______Now compare this 1968 version against the original 1961 studio version. I think you'll love the other one better.

Elvis never wrote any of his songs. He could play guitar & piano, & was of course he could sing. But he was not a songwriter. He started out as a teen idol & there were others in the 1950's & 1960's. Check out Paul Anka singing "Steel Guitar & A Glass of Wine" on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1962. Or Bobby Vinton singing "Mr. Lonely" on American Bandstand in 1964. Or Ricky Nelson singing "Traveling Man" on the Ozzie & Harriet Show in 1961.
