Who you journey with is as important as the journey itself. It shapes you, as you shape each other. Baldur’s Gate 3 aims to take all that binds us together, and offer authentic, reactive relationships from the moment you meet, to whatever eventuality. The road least travelled is best travelled with friends.
Each of your companions have their own personalities, goals, and motivations. Bound by the shared problem of an Illithid tadpole buried in their head, they will join your party but you’ll all have to put your differences aside if you want to survive. The exact relationship you have with your companions, already marred by differences, will be shaped by who you are, what you do, who you side with, and what you say in conversation with them.
Experience it for yourself as you gather your party on October 6th when Baldur's Gate 3 launches Early Access to Steam and Stadia.

getting a dragon age: origins vibe from the camp thing. i feel like i haven't seen a game properly develop that concept since then. i'm thrilled to see how larian is going to do it fr. update: tested it in alpha and can happily report that they did the camp justice! as well as nailing that same atmosphere there appears to be dynamic events that take place at camp, which wasn't really a thing in DAO. so it's not just a repeat!

I just finished the Ed Greenwood book "elminster in myth drannor" and.... yeah, every intimate moment ends in minds being obliterated, magical cages of thorns attached to people's skin, acid worms burrowing into people, or at the very least lots of threats of murder

@@powerist209 Yeah that was my ending as well, I had a semi evil party with Edwin, Viconia, the dwarf and then the teifling bard, the fairy lady and myself... Damn been decades literally since I played... but I remember that ending as I was like bleak.

While plate armor itself is lighter than you might think, couple it with chain mail and a gambeson and it can weigh around fifty pounds. Now try running (even if just figuratively) between departments in a multistory building, and you'll get pretty fit. BTW, laslagos beat me to the joke.

The thing is, I will probably play as halfling first, because I already have an idea for it and I want to see how the animation adjusts to a halflings size compared to the awkward angle and adjustments that Dragon Age did if you were a dwarf(Seriously, it was so annoying to only see the scalp of ones head at times or how the characters hands seem to float or move weirdly due to their shorter height). Also, it will be fun to play as a halfling paladin that summons a mastiff as their mighty steed with the Find Steed spell; "To battle Fluffles!"

@@TheGodlikeDragon Honestly Halfling is a good idea since the whole point of Early Access (at least by Larian's standards) is to look for bugs just like those you mentioned. And of course, there's always fun to be had taking the enemy out at their kneecaps.

@@jacobtrost5048 Indeed. But also, it would be fun to see how things work when you romance your party members as a halfling(mind you that they are 3 ft tall). Will they lift you up every time there is a kiss, will they bend down to kiss you, or will you halfling climb up a close by rock and then be kissed. All of which kind incite my curiosity

Minor nitpick: plate mail is an icky term. A more proper name would simply be plate armor, plate harness or just plate.

I do hope romances will extend beyond "getting together". I was, for a recent example, enjoying the romance with Cassandra in Dragon Age Inquisition. But after we had sex, the interaction just...ended for the most part. There was no development, we were together and with the exception of a few looks or remarks this played no role in the actual game. That's not how relationships work and I wish more games pushed furthe.

It seems everybody at Larian Studios are so fancy, from shining armor, luxurious medieval clothes, carved weapons, bossy brains, and wonderful, hard working staff.. we are falling in love with them more and more in every time they appears to us.

Was definitely interested in hearing about this topic officially. The camp dynamic is reminding me a lot of Dragon Age: Origins, which is a very good thing. That was, by far, my favorite Dragon Age. And, yes, I know that DA was Bioware's spiritual successor to BG.

I have different views of each dragon age game, I like to divide in different cathegorys like: Best game by cathegory: Character Development: Dragon Age 2 Story: Dragon Age: Origins Best Villain: Dragon Age: Inquisition - Tresspasser (Fen'Harel) Romance: DA:O/DA:I Morrigan is my favorite but Solas was well written

We already had 'those special kinds of scenes' made cinematically in the Witcher 3 and nobody seemed to complain. Now we have a studio that allowed us to 'bone' a skeleton in their previous game to show how this can be done properly. The future is bright.

To be honest, I used to be one of the people who liked Lae'zel at first sight and hated Shadowheart. I'm still interested in Lae'zel, but Shadowheart is shaping up to be an interesting character in her own way.

The only thing I'm not quite a fan of is her being a cleric of Sharr. So far a lot of the characters have been nontraditional and I'd like at least one "Good" character. Or at the very least less "Evil"-slanted.

My BG1 and 2 character was a Chaotic Good Fighter classed male human and I had him romance Viconia, a drow woman who was also a cleric of Shar like Shadowheart. Try to be open-minded, romances between two characters of different alignments can work, depending on their personalities.

I am convinced this is going to be the greatest game of all time, I am so happy that Larian got to do BG3. I trust them completely because everything they do shows me that they are trying to give the best possible experience to the player rather than sell copies or cause controversy.

@@FiddlerForest well, if the other mocapper was a dude id have been very unhappy about those scenes, much less so if it was a girl. Chalk that up among the other hundreds of reasons I was never an actor (of any kind) ;) For what its worth, it did look as if the mo capper sitting on the right was a girl. The whole 2020 plague mask thing has made me truely feel sorry for a certain specific Middle Eastern religion.. all your girls hiding their faces makes for a much less lovely world.

@@FiddlerForest I mean, an actor does what an actor must do, unless it breaches against what they think is morally acceptable for themselves. There's plenty of actors that are okay with sex scenes, others that are pretty iffy about it. Of course, in a global event like the one we face, it may have hindered the ability to capture those scenes (like the dev said), for better or worse haha

Getting DA:O's 'Morrigan Disapproves' vibes after seeing 'Gale Approves' and 'Shadowheart Disapproves' at 3:02. One thing is for damn certain - party conflicts will be very entertaining. As long as the rest of the story holds up, I might have to dethrone DA:O from my little list of fav RPGs of all time (atm it holds spot nr 2 right after BG2, so we shall see).

I'd love to see some more "normal" moments in the game with companions. Like in Dragon Age 2 you could've drink with them in the tavern, they visited you in your house for no particular reason. Just to talk, and goof around sometimes. That's what made Mass Effect trilogy so special to me. Not the plot, not the graphics, gameplay etc. Companions were family. I've grown to actually care about them, look forward to talk to them, to learn about them, their problems. There was a mission in Mass Effect 3 involving going to the roof with your best friend and shooting some bottles. Just because. No critical plot, no unnecessary drama. Just shooting bottles competition. I really hope you guys will make me care and companions won't be just about business (Drinking competition with baezel perhaps?) Keep up the great work! oh and please release BG3 on consoles ;_;

One of my all-time favourite "missions" in a game was in Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker where my Shepard met up with Liara (his ex) for a coffee and had a super awkward conversation about his one night stand with Jack. It was such a real moment in the midst of all this sci-fi action. Made the characters so much more relatable.

I agree. For example, that scene from Witcher 3 where Geralt gets to Kaer Morhen and has that casual moment with his buddies, that was too awesome.

I know, I had a great group to play 5ed. with weekly, but not being fond of looking at other people on Zoom, (I have to for my job all day long) Covid, like so many things has killed our game. Small compared to many much worse losses but to me, it was important.

I've followed larian studios since I was a kid. They're such a great studio with so many talented people. I remember playing DKS for the first time and it being the first rpg I fully beat. One day I hope to work there but for now I'm ecstatic for the release of BG3

Would be interesting to see romance develop between party members as well, not just with the mc, it doesn't happen in many games but when it does I think it adds to the story.

I agree. Baldur's Gate 2 did offer some relationship between your companions if some character weren't romanced like Aerie and Haer'Dalis or Anomen and Neera.
