Ronnie was a ham radio operator back in the 70's. Both of my parents were also. Back then, there was like a "telephone book" that listed all ham radio operators, in alphabetical order with their addresses. For my parent's 50th wedding anniversary, I sent a letter to the address that was listed for Ronnie , explaining the connection of ham radio with my parents and him. I asked if he could send them 50th anniversary greeting. Within a month, a package arrived for them. There was a huge bouquet of flowers along with autographed pictures of him and an anniversary card. He was ever so generous. Take care and be well, guys. It was great hearing this song again. Peace.

Saw him live @ 25 years ago. He was phenomenal. I was standing backstage and him and his assistant walked up to me and I introduced myself to him. He asked me if l seen his wife. I told him no. His reply was... Me neither. I laughed awkwardly and he asked me it was funny right? I told it was a classic. I'll never forget it. To this day my fondest memory of seeing him live.

Oh my God! I was on a gambling boat that he had entertained on, and they said he was going to come in the restaurant where I was to eat. But he never did while I was there. I didn’t cry, I wanted his autograph. I wonder if he was carrying his slate and stylus. For those of you who do not know, those are things that blame people use to write Braille with. And yes, what he said was funny just for the record. I’m blind and we joke like that all the time. And also being blind, believe it or not, does not suck. I know people think it does and I totally understand why. But I don’t think that Ronnie Milsap would be who he is today if he weren’t blind.

I seen him in concert in the 80’s and he kept walking what looked like 2 feet from the edge of the elevated stage. Every time he did I would cringe and I’m sure the entire audience did also. A little bit into the concert in between songs he stopped 2 feet from the stage edge and he said I know you all are concerned about me falling off this stage but you don’t need to worry. I’ve walked this stage so many times I’ve memorized right where the edge is and I know where I am at all times. The edge is about 10 feet in front of me. 🤣. I’ll never forgot him saying that. Great sense of humor.😂

My favorite song by Ronnie Milsap that peaked at #5 on the billboard hot 100 yy
@shyman99
@shyman99 4 ай бұрын
That peak was not representative of his best work. It is representative of the moment in history where country music was at the peak of crossing over to pop thanks in part to "Urban Cowboy". Eddie Rabbit also had his highest charting record at the time called "I Love A Rainy Night" which went to #1. But he admitted it was not his best record due to what I mentioned above. Ronnie's best would probably be the song that helped set the tone for what was coming in the crossover world when he reached the top 20 on the Hot 100 with "It Was Almost Like A Song" in 1977. Crystal Gayle & Dolly Parton followed. The rest is history.

Hey y'all, since you asked for other great country artists, you really ought to look into Red Sovine. He recorded from the 50's to the 70's. He had a slough of great songs. The first one you should listen to is "Teddy Bear". After that you should hear "Little Joe", "Giddy-up go", and "Phantom 309". He has others that are great also, but those are four good ones to start with.

My friend Gina's parents had this song on 45. One day while we were at her house, a few of us made up new lyrics incorporating the names of the boys in our grade. We sang them during the bus ride on our second-grade field trip in the Spring of 1982. We got everyone else to do it, too.
