love languages are not fake. learning about them made me understand myself, my partners, friends, family and much more so much more. people value different things and measure love in different ways. if my love language is a gifts and I buy you a gift and you are ungrateful that can ruin a relationship, but learning maybe that person values quality time together, then I understand we need to spend time together and vice versa.

Some people FEEL loved more when you pick up the dish towel and dry while they're washing, more than someone buying flowers. Someone might feel more loved when their partner reaches out and takes their hand in public rather than saying it's okay I'm going home with you. Some people might doubt everything until they hear the words I love you. I think it's important to understand your partners "Love language" so you know what they need from you to feel secure and appreciated.

So the fact that Gary Chapman, a minister who counselled thousands of couples, has been on the New York Times Best Seller list multiple times and garnered the data from notes kept over the years renders this non-scientific. What an insult to a tremendous, albeit helpful body of work. Shame on the producers and hosts for misrepresenting the stealth of this work.

The way I see it, most people give the love language they want to receive rather than discovering their partner’s love language and giving them that. If you truly love your partner and want to express your love in a language that is meaningful to them, learn their language and hopefully they will do the same. I’ve seen many couples where one person doesn’t feel loved because the other one is not ‘speaking’ their language

Straight men love physical touch, but words of affirmation and quality time go along way with me
@neoporticulis
@neoporticulis 6 ай бұрын
Also, possibly, straight men are socially discouraged from appreciating other forms of affirmation. I remember a paper I read of how gender is indoctrinated at birth as baby boys are less fussed over than baby girls, and this could conceivably condition people to respond to different kinds of interactions differently. Edit: in concert with other conditioning as the child grows older of course.

Love language doesn't find your soulmate. It tells you the way in which your partner wants love. That's just 1 aspect of a relationship. Also no not all men want physical touch. And touch doesn't just mean sex. Includes cuddles hugs kisses etc. Mine as a man is quality time

This false fabrication of men only care about sex nonsense is too overbearing! This needs to stop in 2024. Women read sex novels, watch sex on TV & film, go to sex therapists, and talk about sex with friends in much greater detail and at a much higher rate than men do. Men love sports & sex, yes we do! When we get it, because most men can't get it as easy or often as women can, we want to keep getting it. Simple

One time this guy I met on an app made me take a love language test. We had the exact same languages and were 100% compatible on paper. We didn't last one month! IT was terrible and he was emotionally abusive and controlling (him making me take a stupid test should've been a hint). That's why I do't believe in the love languages theory.

I really don't like this. They talk about wanting men to elevate themselves yet they say these things? Don't know if they're joking or being serious but not my cup of tea. There are men who need other things and not necessarily with ulterior motive. Unfortunately a lot of times it's based on how you were raised and did or did not receive love.

Someone wrote an article saying it is fake. But I don't agree. Just because a Preacher wrote it does not negate its findings. Pastors and Preachers counsel couples before and during their marriages. He probably started noticing things about couples and wrote a book about it. People are motivated by different things.

Science doesn’t need to explain or understand everything. The love languages make sense but it’s ridiculous to think those are the only ways of communication or to understand your partner, which the book highlights too
@MeyaRoseGirl
@MeyaRoseGirl 5 ай бұрын
Sara started to touch on it when she said the original author was a Baptist minister, but I have been hearing lately that the book isn't as openhearted and giving as the media has portrayed it all these years. Apparently the book can be interpreted to be somewhat emotionally manipulative in that it says that a woman owes her husband sex even if she doesn't feel like it because otherwise she's a bad wife. (It's like how the Quran encourages marital rape.) I think most of us agree that in any relationship, it's going to take respectful communication to understand how to make your partner feel loved, and you are going to have problems if you dismiss loving gestures because you don't recognize them. Having not read the book, I thought that's what it's about, based on hearsay. Now, knowing it was written by a religious figure instead of a psychologist or a marriage counselor, the whole room groaned because they know it means there are all sorts of religious edicts in there that don't really have anything to do with expressions of love.
