My explanation: Jiuyun has experienced thousand years to love and watch the girl he loves (of course she doesn’t know there is someone watching her). And he had to witness his girl was unhappy and her lifetime always came to an end. In the movie we have seen are her 3 lifetimes. The first lifetime, you can see the girl in red beating the drum, she was dead later in the battle. Her second lifetime, is Princess Yanyan and after that changed face to Xiao Chuan, in her second life, Jiuyun decided to appear in front of her to show her his love, save her life to make her happier. In this life, because of killing demons, Xuanzhu was dead, instead. After Jiuyun and Xuanzhu were dead, Xiao Chuan decided to sacrifice herself once again to help the recreation of Jiuyun’s spirit. And Xiao Chuan was reborn into the third lifetime as Princess of Li again. The Princess dreamed about only her maid, the relationship of Xuanzhu and Zichen. That was what exactly happened in her past lifetime but about Jiuyun he was just one person in white calling her Xiao Chuan and she felt sad when she heard his voice (you saw the small princess crying). Because of what she knew in her dream, she miscalled her maid A Man and this lifetime she sincerely completed relationship for Zichen and Xuanzhu. However she didnot know why she was moved and unclearly sad when watching the peach blossom painting. Only when the Prince of Tianyuan (Ermeng was reborn) arrived to show her the painting (done by Misan, best friend of Jiuyun), Chuan could come into it and met Jiuyun again where he has to be recovered.

Where not satisfied with ending , that’s why we need season 2 for this beautiful drama please 😭😭

Been crying since the last episode. This drama is amazing. I’ve watched all Zhao Lusi’s drama series and I can say that she can really blend in with her other male leads despite of her age. She has a great chemistry with all her male leads in every drama. I’m confused with Li Hong Yi, Ding Yunxi and now, Zheng ye cheng 🥺 I don’t know who to choose now. But I recommend you guys to watch The Romance of Tiger and Rose ❤️ her new drama. You’ll never regret it

Jiuyun was born from the lamp. So I think that's where he exists now. In the end, he took her into lamp & it disappears. She experiences another, happier life without demons invading Li. I think that's his gift. Then she remembers him when she sees his painting & they reunite. That's just how I see it.

While waiting, u fans should go watch "love better than immortality" Xin Chuan is the fL. If u haven't seen it. Trust me u will fall in love with this fictional drama. She's so much cuter. Her lead male actors are so darn sweet and charming. Ur welcome!!!!

This is my interpretations of the story - some parts adapted from other comments: Maybe the teacher intentionally left Jiuyun the painting of the red dress girl, knowing that the girl will finally lead Jiuyun to be burnt as the wick to save the world from all demons. The teacher said it - he can't take care of the future disasters. Maybe his teacher knew that Jiuyin will fall for Yanyan in the painting. The teacher's painting just foretold the fate & destiny of Yanyan so I don't think that's her first life. Jiujun did look at the painting for 1000 years but it doesn't mean that Yanyan keeps reborning during that time frame. Her first life is when Jiuyun found her in the real world and her fate was forever changed by Jiuyun the moment he saved her from being killed in Ep. 1. Maybe Jiuyun did gather his spirit and help Chuan reincarnate into a second life free of demons in Ep. 30. Or, maybe God helps them... who knows... As a mortal Yanyan never remembers anything from her previous life. Yet she has deja vu feeling about the painting, the song and Jiuyun - that's why she becomes emotional even not knowing why (proof that she can't remember). She didn't say "Fu Jiuyun" when she saw him in the painting. Instead, she said, "Is that you?" due to familiarity, not memory (this part I'm quoting @Nicole Raheem).

i was so worried during the first few episodes bc so many ppl claimed that this isnt a zhao lusi drama but its her acting. its her being the lead. it is her drama. im so glad i continued it instead of dropping it at episode 3

I came here for zhao lusi but in the end I fell in love with zheng yecheng.....I never expected him to be act like this except being cold , now I became his fan...really he is an outstanding actor he can convey everything just by using his eyes.....And this drama , I can get over from this...love it.
