+Beyond The Trailer What I love about the movie is that it is fun and not negative instead of the depressing ending where the gay person is bullied into committing suicide which is the case in many gay movies.

Without spoilers, good review Grace, but I disagree that what Simon did to his friends is unforgivable. It was very wrong and selfish, but at the same time I am sympathetic to him in his situation and I think in moments of fear, people make irrational decisions.

In all honesty I teared up a little thinking about how an LGBT movie was described as "perfect", especially by Grace who always has something critical to say about movies

I am soooo glad that it's an upbeat happy movie instead of the depressing end crap in some gay movies where the rejected gay teenager is bullied into committing suicide.

In my opinion - it defiantly did justice to the LGBT community. Simon is not your stereotypical gay man but at the same time those who fall in the some stereotypes are not ridiculed for being effeminate or flamboyant. I don’t want to spoil it but the film shows more than a straight passing gay man.

I’ve seen it twice now and I would say it definitely captures the coming out experience extremely well. Obviously everyone’s experience is different but the feeling of being closeted, that feeling of the weight being lifted once you come out, and that feeling when you’re finally living truthfully was all depicted with authenticity and sensitivity. The mom’s speech near the end is wonderful and the first time I saw it, the reveal at the end of who “Blue” is had me smiling and tearing up so much. I also clapped out of excitement at the reveal even though I already knew who it was (I read the book). Love, love, love this movie so much. It makes me so happy that LGBT kids now have a movie like this to represent and guide them. It would have been life-changing for me as a scared and confused closeted teenager. That we’ve gotten to this point makes the hardship and struggles as a community worth it and I hope this just the beginning.

I love that you drew comparisons to both Wonder Woman and Get Out. I didn't really think of how all three of these films are connected and how important they all are. It's also incredible that audiences actually responded to both of those films and will hopefully will respond to this one. Hollywood execs need to know this is the content we wanna see!!

OMG, I'm so happy to here that they take the time to show that the homosexual community is just as diverse as the heterosexual. I didn't realize just how starved I was for more diverse gay male representation until I caught myself saying "hallelujah!!!" when you noted this movie's handling of its gay characters. I often find it so so difficult to find gay characters in media who I feel like I can relate to. They paint us with ONE LARGE BRUSH ALL THE TIME. We're not all loud, obnoxious, edgy, zany and haughty. (Although a fair amount of us are; but so are straight ppl, yet they aren't reduced to the same cliche.) Now I really can't wait to see this movie! lol

Wow, fantastic review. As someone who read the book, I had high hopes but was also sceptical because I know some films can ruin a good book. You raised some excellent points, especially about Simon's actions effecting his friends - in the novel it does take awhile for them all to forgive him, so the redemption arc does go on for a bit. Overall I thought the story was a genuinely nice love story. Also the author is releasing a sequel this year in April. The book takes place a year after the events of this story and focuses on Simon's friend Leah. So it's possible they may adapt the second book in the series. As always, great review :)

There is actually a sequel coming out to the book that Love, Simon is based on, however it follows Leah's character, so I think if there is a sequel, it will revolve around Leah but he will definitely be a part of it

I’ve known Jorge since we were freshman in high school and to see him in a film that is not only getting plenty of attention (other than his brief cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming) but is also considered pretty darn good is a sigh of relief. Glad you enjoyed the movie and I can’t wait to see it for myself.

You absolutely hit the nail on the head when you were saying that you should seek help when coming out, rather than be inspired by a work of fiction. I couldn’t agree more. I’m still trying to think of how to come out. The film helps, but I need assistance and guidance so I know what to say.

Glad you really loved “Love, Simon” - my friend and I definitely did in the early screening we went to. In terms of what Simon did to his friends (kind of spoilerly) - when Simon and the other gay kid are ridiculed in front of the whole school, I think that scene was meant to show why Simon was “so horrible” to his friends.

Okay, when you said it was a perfect movie I thought you were exagerating. But I've just seen it and I must say I'm really freaking impressed. I LOVED it. Such an identity affirming film, this is more than just a teen romance.
