When this song came out, the band was talking about how it was special to the lead singer. And he had a surprise for the video, but didn’t tell anybody. the lead singer cut his hair and played his dad in the video. The band said it was extremely touching, because, the lead singer was known for letting no one mess with his hair. But he did it for his dad in this case.

Great Band. So many really good songs. Queen of Memphis, Trashy Women and plenty more. Although, personally I had split favorites. “Daddy never was the Cadillac kind” and “When you leave that way you can never go back”. You guys have to dive into them some more. You won’t be disappointed.

I bought a Cadillac SUV. I told Daddy. He said what do you need a Cadillac for? Daddy died January 2 2022. This song reminds me so much of Daddy.

This song seems like it was written for my dad. He died tragically from leukemia 12 years ago and a huge part of me died with him. He was a simple man, worked his ass off everyday as a carpenter and a real Renaissance man. Did everything the old fashioned way and the first new car he ever had, he bought 6 months before he passed, a big shiny 2011 f150 pickup truck. He never even got to enjoy it, but he was so damn proud to have it. It hurt me to have to bring it back to the dealership after he passed, only had 800 miles on it but I couldn't afford to keep it otherwise id still have it.

So many people today just don't realize just how poor the majority of America was for so long in America, and still are in some places. Our ancestors worked hard to support their families, communities and country. Recognizing and remembering this help to keep my own life in check when I start to get that "I need this" feeling.

The video was filmed in my town. Town people were the extras. Danny grew up about 15 miles from Dunlap TN in an even smaller town called Whitwell.

Sorry, but no, I don't think so.. I am pretty sure "Daddy" was played by lead singer, Danny Shirley's real life father in this video... My source... Back in the day, CMT had a show, I don't recall the name of that show, but it was a clone of another show that was popular at the time, "Pop Up Video" that gave out trivia (In Pop Ups) about the videos they played on the show... That piece of trivia from this song stuck with me... Is it possible my memory is faulty? Perhaps... It was, after all, close to 30 years ago... Just the realization of how much time has passed probably just doubled my senility anyway... Great song/video either way, I hope we can at least agree on that...

If you want an complete different song from Confederate Railroad check out "The Big One " it has a twist in the chorus .

When they came out, "Confederate" was just seen as a pride thing. There was nothing offensive about it. Later on, it became like a slur and they've gotten banned from some venues because of their name. They can't change the name now because all their hits were done with the name "Confederate Railroad" and thats the only way that people know them.
