She's not only singing and selling the hell out of the vocal, but she's playing a lead piano line with one hand and an amazing bass line on the minimoog with the other.

Love how you phrased it “selling the hell out of the vocal.” So true! It’s easy to become too focused on playing a instrument when singing and vice versa. And she’s doing a hell of a job at both here!

When this gigantic hit song came out in the 1970s, I didn't like it all. I thought it was corny and dumb. What did I know...I was into Deep Purple, Alice Cooper and Jethro Tull, ha ha. And i still love all of those bands, but today I listen to Love Will Keep Us Together and I think it's one of the greatest pop songs of my time. It's so perfectly written and performed, with melody, a beat, a hook and a keyboard riff that immediately captures your ear. Plus the lyrics: "Young and beautiful / Someday your looks will be gone."....very unusual for a love song at the top of the charts. Neil Sedaka and co-writer Howard Greenfield created an enduring classic (one of many).

They were both talented and wonderful, but she’s often overlooked. Tenille was incredibly talented with one of the most beautiful voices. And here you see, and playing a synth and piano at the same time. Live. 🤩 I was expanding into more of Captain and Tennille’s albums recently, and they have an incredible body of work. Worth exploring they were so wonderful. Rest in peace Captain! Thank you Midnight Special!

Toni is no joke on the keyboards and played them on the early Capt. and Tennille recordings. Here she is on the bass synth and of course the acoustic piano while Daryl (RIP) is on synth melody and organ. All keys and drums, no other instruments.

A lot of folks didn’t like them (too poppy), but I did. This live performance was great! Toni had a great charisma. She made up for Darryl's apparent lack thereof. 😂 The only thing missing here was some backup singers. I was waiting for "Sedaka is back" at the end. Hahaha💜

Some fun facts... This song spent 4 weeks on top of billboard Top 40 (summer of 1975). It was the number one song of the year 1975. I remember Casey Kasem raving about it and the artists. Written by Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka 2 years earlier. Neil was a great songwriter and singer in the 1970s as well. Toni's playing piano and synth bass. The Captain is playing everything else, I so love the Hammond B3 organ with a Leslie speaker. It just gives a band such a full sound.

Amazing live performance. They both had great keyboard chops. I like this better than any of the later TV appearances, where she just sings and he's obviously faking it. In a Keyboard magazine interview, he really hated the faking and even the editing which showed his hands playing something different that what was on the track! I loved The Midnight Special, In Concert and all that ilk from the 70's because 99% was actually played live.
